Thor and Loki rides opening at Drayton Manor theme park

Thor and Loki can thank the Marvel Cinematic Universe for their current popularity, but their stories date back to Viking mythology, so the new Vikings-themed area at Drayton Manor Resort in the U.K. features Thor and Loki rides.

Opening on May 28, 2022, the highly-anticipated new land will transport guests to a “bygone era full of unforgettable adventures inspired by mythical legends and ancient gods.” That includes the new Thor “disk’o coaster” that spins riders in a giant wheel across a racing coaster track, and the family-friendly Loki thrill ride – the U.K.’s first Zamperla Nebulaz – that takes riders on a spin in gondolas on arms that rotate in a fast-intermeshing orbit.

“We are thrilled to finally be welcoming guests to our exciting and mythical new Vikings-themed area […] and the exhilarating rides and attractions we have in store, including a U.K.-first,” said Drayton Manor Resort Managing Director, Victoria Lynn. “The area is designed with each member of the family in mind, so there really is something for everyone.”

The land will take guests on an immersive voyage through Norse history ,with Viking-themed entertainment during peak times and the new Walhalla eatery serving hot food from a sizzling BBQ pit, including pulled pork baps, chicken wings, and jacket potatoes.

In addition to the Thor and Loki rides, the area features a new Sleipnir attraction that will take smaller explorers on a journey through a training school on a horseback ride around a circular track, with an ancient Viking mythical horse teaching them how they can become a mighty god, plus the park’s family-favorite Buffalo Coaster that’s been reimagined as Jormungandr.

Families can extend the adventure overnight at the onsite four-star hotel in 10 brand-new Vikings-themed rooms that feature Nordic-inspired furnishings, traditional wooden paneling embellished with shields, and paintings of Viking voyages.
