‘Toy Story’ returning to movie theaters for 30th anniversary in fall 2025
Celebrate 30 years of magic as “Toy Story” returns in movie theaters in fall 2025. Relive the classic before “Toy Story 5” arrives in 2026.

This September, audiences can relive Pixar’s groundbreaking debut as “Toy Story” returns to movie theaters across the U.S. The classic animated film, originally released on Nov. 22, 1995, will return to movie theaters on Sept. 12, 2025, marking a special theatrical re-release timed to honor its 30-year milestone.
‘Toy Story’ re-release set for September 2025
Disney debuted a new poster to announce “Toy Story” returning to movie theaters in 2025:

A pioneer in animation history, “Toy Story“ was the first feature film created entirely with computer-generated imagery. Its release not only revolutionized animation, but also earned three Academy Award nominations:
- Best Original Screenplay
- Best Original Score
- Best Original Song (“You’ve Got a Friend in Me”)
The original “Toy Story” has been celebrated for its sharp writing, heartfelt voice performances (with Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear), and stunning technical innovation.
This re-release sets the stage for the franchise’s future. With “Toy Story 5” releasing in movie theaters on June 19, 2026, the theatrical return of the original “Toy Story” is a nostalgic bridge to the next chapter. Of course, “Toy Story” fans can watch the entire series featuring Buzz and Woody as it continues to stream on Disney+.
Toy Story’s lasting impact at Disney parks

The impact of “Toy Story” at Disney parks is immense, with attractions and character experiences worldwide. Since Buzz and Woody first appeared in 1995, their presence has grown from meet & greets to full-fledged themed lands. Toy Story Land can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Florida), Walt Disney Studios Park (Paris), Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland, offering attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and RC Racer.
The “virtual target practice” ride Toy Story Midway Mania! remains a fan-favorite at Disney California Adventure, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Tokyo DisneySea. Space-themed dark rides starring Buzz Lightyear continue to be popular at various Disney theme parks, too, with Magic Kingdom’s version about to undergo a major refurbishment for 2025.
The “Toy Story” franchise also inspired interactive dining experiences, such as Roundup Rodeo BBQ, and contributed to the creation of parade floats, resort themes, and merchandise lines.
Whether it’s your first cinematic watch or a heartfelt revisit, the return of “Toy Story” to movie theaters in fall 2025 invites audiences of all ages aboard Andy’s room once more.

So what is so great about this re-release? Did they upscale it to 4k? Update the assets? I just saw it at a theater that plays old movies for $5.
