A classic ‘Treehouse of Horror’ moment is finally becoming reality at Universal
“The Simpsons” has been celebrating Halloween with “Treehouse of Horror” since 1990. Now, more than three decades later, Universal Studios Hollywood is turning one of its most memorable Halloween jokes into something fans can actually eat.

New “Treehouse of Horror”-inspired food is coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2026, including a giant doughnut that calls back to the time Homer Simpson literally sold his soul for one.
It’s not a full “Treehouse of Horror” attraction or haunted house, but for fans who have wanted to see the series’ Halloween tradition represented at Universal’s Halloween event, it’s a fun step in that direction. And it is in line with the hints Matt Selman, showrunner for “The Simpsons,” has been dropping for a while.
The new offerings were previewed ahead of Halloween Horror Nights, which begins Sept. 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood and runs select nights through Nov. 1.
Watch our quick clip below for an overview of the lineup.
Homer’s deal with the Devil becomes reality
One of the standouts is the Mmm… Forbidden Pumpkin Donut, a giant sprinkled pumpkin doughnut served in a box featuring Devil Flanders. It’s an homage (Homer-age?) to “The Devil and Homer Simpson,” a segment from 1993’s “Treehouse of Horror IV.”

After Homer declares that he would sell his soul for a doughnut, the Devil appears in the unlikely form of his relentlessly friendly neighbor Ned Flanders and takes him up on the offer. Three decades later, Universal is essentially serving its own version of that forbidden doughnut.
And the reference goes deeper.

Daddy’s Soul Donut cold brew continues the joke
The Pumpkin Spice Cold Boo features another callback to the same “Treehouse of Horror” story.
The drink is labeled Daddy’s Soul Donut and topped with a small sprinkled doughnut.
In the episode, Homer discovers that the Devil can’t claim his soul until he finishes eating the doughnut. His solution is to save the final piece — although, being Homer, that plan doesn’t last long.
The name “Daddy’s Soul Donut” turns that entire plot into a food joke for fans who recognize the reference.
More ‘Simpsons’ jokes are on the menu
The “Treehouse of Horror” offerings go beyond Homer’s infernal doughnut deal.
Wurst. Brat. Ever! transforms Comic Book Guy’s famous “Worst. Episode. Ever.” line into a bratwurst pun. The brat is served in a bun with sauerkraut and sauce.
Sloppy D’oh puts a food spin on Homer’s signature “D’oh!” with a sloppy Joe-style sandwich served with fries.
Then there’s Road Scrapings, a deliberately unappetizing name for a much more appetizing-looking pile of loaded fries topped with fried chicken, sauce and crunchy toppings. This one seems inspired by Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel.

Taken together, it’s a small lineup with some surprisingly deep references. Attractions Magazine asked a Universal Studios Hollywood representative if any additional “Treehouse of Horror” additions could be expected, such as some lighting and effects to the Springfield U.S.A. area of the park during Halloween Horror Nights.
It seems this year’s representation will be purely in food form. But there is strong indication next year will bring much more; no deal with devlish Flanders required.
