Tron Lightcycle / Run is officially opening Apr. 4 at the Magic Kingdom after initial cast member previews. Originally announced in 2017, now nearly six years later we are ready to enter The Grid. Tron Lightcycle / Run will be the new fastest roller coaster at the Magic Kingdom, with a dynamic restraint system and lighting package.

The story of Tron Lightcycle / Run picks up after “Tron: Legacy” where Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, has opened a second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid. The first of these portals he created is found at Shanghai Disneyland with the original Tron Lightcycle Power Run. When you enter the queue at Magic Kingdom, you’ll feel as if you’re digitized and transported to the Grid for a Lightcycle race.
We have been watching the construction of this coaster since the very beginning, from dirt and concrete footers to initial lighting tests of the Upload Conduit roof structure.
It’s your Team Blue against the Grid’s Programs, Team Orange. Your goal is to be the first to race through eight Energy Gates and secure victory. The attraction will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world.
The two coasters at Shanghai Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Park should be identical for riders. But we are excited to see differences in pre-show and exit areas. Rumor has it that Tron Lightcycle / Run will require riders to use a locker, something new for Walt Disney World.
We were able to get an up-close look at this coaster when the Walt Disney World Railroad opened late December 2022.
From initial announcements to construction progress and now an opening date confirmed, Tron Lightcycle / Run is almost here, six years later. Are you ready for this major expansion to the Magic Kingdom, or is this coaster too intense for you?
Disney has also confirmed to us that eligible Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members will be getting previews in the coming weeks. More details for this offering will be available at a later date.
