Tropical Storm Idalia – Theme Park Closures and Updates

Due to the projected path of Tropical Storm Idalia, Busch Gardens has enacted its Named Storm Policy. At this point, no Orlando theme park closures have been announced.

Tampa International Airport (TPA) will close at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2023, and will reopen when it’s safe to do so. Check directly with individual airlines for the latest flight updates. Orlando International Airport (MCO) will remain open.

Below are the current attraction closures:

Universal Orlando Resort – Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Universal Volcano Bay will open at 9 a.m. on Aug. 30, 2023; however, early park admission will not be offered for on-site hotel guests on that date.

Walt Disney World Resort – Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf, and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf will be closed on Aug. 30, 2023.

SeaWorld Orlando – The park will open 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 30, 2023.

Aquatica Orlando – The park will be closed on Aug. 30, 2023, with normal operations resuming on Aug. 31, 2023. All date-intended tickets for closure days have been extended through Aug. 31, 2024.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay – The park will close at 3 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2023, and remain closed on Aug. 30, 2023. The park plans to reopen on Aug. 31, 2023.

Adventure Island Water Park – The park will be closed August 29-31, 2023, with plans to reopen on Sept. 1, 2023.

Discovery Cove – Discovery Cove will be closed on Aug. 30, 2023, with plans to reopen Aug. 31, 2023. If your reservation is impacted, email [email protected] to rebook your visit.

Legoland Water Park – The park will be closed on Aug. 30, 2023.

ZooTampa – ZooTampa will be closed Aug. 29 and 30, 2023. The zoo plans to re-open on Aug. 31, 2023, following park safety assessment. Zoo School will be closed Tuesday through Thursday.

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens – The zoo will close at noon on Aug. 29, 2023, and will remain closed Aug. 30, 2023. The zoo hopes to reopen Aug. 31, 2023.

Wild Florida – All airboat tours will be canceled on Aug. 30, 2023. The drive-thru Safari Park will remain open, with the last car entering the trail at 5 p.m. The Gator Park will be open until 6 p.m.

Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex – The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour and Apollo/Saturn V Center will be closed Aug. 30, 2023. All other exhibits at the main visitor complex will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cape Canaveral – The scheduled launch of the NROL-107 Silentbaker Mission has been postponed to a later date. Click here for more information.

Icon Park – The Wheel and Carousel at Icon Park will be closed Aug. 30, 2023. Many of the park’s restaurants, bars, and attractions will be open for take-out and indoor dining. Call businesses directly or check their websites for operating hours.

All SeaWorld parks, including SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens, and Adventure Island, recently announced a new Weather-Or-Not policy covering storm-related closures. Click here for details.

Legoland Florida and Peppa Pig theme parks will be open, but guests may experience limited park operations on Aug. 30, 2023, due to weather conditions.

Storm Assistance for Florida Residents

Walt Disney World Resort

  • Walt Disney World Guests – Change and cancellation fees will be waived for guests with check-in dates from Aug. 20 through Sept. 4, 2023. Guests currently staying at Walt Disney Resort whose travel plans are impacted by the storm can receive a discounted rate to extend their hotel stay through the evening of Aug. 31, 2023. Visit the front desk for assistance.
  • Evacuees and First Responders – Florida residents who are evacuating from the storm and first responders assisting in storm-related efforts can receive 50% off Walt Disney World Resort hotel stays on the nights of Aug. 29-31, 2023 (based on availability). Evacuees should call 407-828-DISNEY; first responders should call 407-828-3200 (option 3). New bookings only.

Guests staying at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been asked to remove and stow all outside items (including décor) and take in camper awnings by 6 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2023. Guests who would like to depart early or discuss alternate options for their vacation should call (407) 939-2744.

Legoland Florida Resort

Legoland Florida Resort is offering discounted hotel rates for families who are evacuating from the storm. Florida residents can book stays from Aug. 29-31, 2023, at Legoland Hotel or Legoland Pirate Island Hotel for $129 per night. New bookings only. Click here for details.

Rosen Hotels & Resorts

Rosen Hotels & Resorts has activated its Florida Resident Distress Rates, offering evacuees a safe, affordable place to ride out the storm (no additional pet fee during distress rates). To reserve a room, call 866-33-ROSEN (76736).

Rosen Hotel & Resort Distress Rates are as follows:

  • $69/night (not including taxes) at Rosen Inn International, Rosen Inn closest to Universal, Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando, and Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista
  • $99/night (not including taxes) at Rosen Plaza
  • $109/night (not including taxes) at Rosen Centre
  • $129/night (not including taxes) at Rosen Shingle Creek
