Disney has announced new details regarding their plans for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” kicking off on Oct. 1 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.
A new nighttime spectacular titled “Disney Enchantment” will kick off the celebration starting Oct. 1 at Magic Kingdom.
This evening spectacle will “take you on a journey filled with adventure, wonder and empowerment,” and will feature music, enhanced lighting, fireworks, and — for the first time ever — projection effects on Main Street, U.S.A.
Alongside “Disney Enchantment” will be the long-awaited debut of “Harmonious” at Epcot, also on Oct. 1. This new show will take over the World Showcase Lagoon and celebrate the Disney Music that inspires fans around the world. The show will feature new technical advances that incorporate pyrotechnics, choreographed moving fountains, lighting, and other media as guests “travel the globe” through new interpretations of classic Disney songs reimagined in over a dozen languages by a diverse group of 240 artists from around the world.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, new daytime entertainment will arrive to celebrate the resort’s anniversary. “Disney KiteTails” will come to life several times daily at the Discovery River Amphitheater starting Oct. 1. Performers will fly windcatchers and kites of all sorts of shapes and sizes; out on the water, elaborate 3D kites — with some even stretching to 30 feet long — will depict Disney animals like Simba, Zazu, Baloo and King Louie. These unique kites will “dance” through the air to the beat of iconic Disney songs.
As previously announced, your favorite Disney characters will get an EARidescent makeover with brand-new outfits for the 50th anniversary, including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale. Guests will be able to see them several times daily in Magic Kingdom with the new “Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade.”
These characters will also be found as golden sculptures debuting Oct. 1 at Magic Kingdom, with 50 statues in total to be displayed across all four parks. More will be revealed of the “Disney Fab 50” soon.
In addition, this fall will see the publication of “Walt Disney World: A Portrait of the First Half Century,” a new coffee table book from Disney Editions. Written by Kevin Kern, Tim O’Day and Steven Vagnini, the book will be available for purchase starting Sept. 28 at Walt Disney World, online at shopDisney.com, and wherever books are sold.
Also previously announced, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” will also mark the grand opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and La Crêperie de Paris at Epcot, the transformation of each of the four park icons into “Beacons of Magic” at night, EARidescent décor across the resort, and more.
More details on this milestone celebration will be shared in the weeks and months to come. For more information about Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary celebration, visit DisneyWorld.com/50.
