Universal Beijing Resort reveals new details on rides, lands and more

by Attractions Magazine Staff

Universal Beijing Resort has shared a video revealing new details on the numerous experiences that will be available to guests once the destination opens in 2021.

The resort includes Universal Studios Beijing theme park, Universal CityWalk Beijing, and two hotels – The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel.

The video prominently features new images, concept art, and more from the theme park’s seven themed lands: Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Hollywood, Waterworld, Transformers Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Jurassic World Isla Nublar.

In Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, guests will explore “Legendary China” and The Valley of Peace, a small town where Po, the panda hero of the story, lives.

One unique feature located in the center of the land, Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, will change seasons continually through winter, spring, summer and fall. This effect will be achieved through 58,000 hand-made blossoms paired with 360-degree projection mapping and other artistic technologies.

This land will feature a unique flume ride that pits Po against Tian Sha, titled Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior.

In Hollywood, guests can immerse themselves in the magic of the movies.

This land will offer guests the chance to go behind-the-scenes of movie-making with “Lights, Camera, Action!,” a new show featuring world-renowned directors Stephen Spielberg and Zhang Yimou.

In Waterworld, the first theme park land dedicated to the film, guests will find themselves in the middle of a thrilling water battle with the Waterworld Stunt Show. As visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood will know, this up-close look at the work that goes into film stunts will include water motorboats, high-dives, gunfire, explosions, and even a plane crash.

Transformers Metrobase will be the first theme park land in the world dedicated to the franchise.

Here, visitors will become “guest agents” and fight with the Autobots on multiple attractions like Bumblebee Boogie, Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark, and the Decepticoaster – which guests of Universal Orlando will find quite similar to The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

Inspired by Illumination’s “Despicable Me” franchise, Minion Land captures the mischievous and whimsical fun of the Minions by taking guests to iconic locations from the films, like Super Silly Fun Land.

The land’s signature attraction, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, will even “transform” guests into Minions as they travel through Gru’s Super Villain laboratory.

Upon entering The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, guests will find themselves in Hogsmeade, where the iconic beverage Butterbeer will be available to enjoy. The land will also include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, where guests will fly with the boy wizard through familiar scenes from the films.

In Jurassic World Isla Nublar, the land inspired by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s blockbuster franchise, guests can explore the island where dinosaurs once again roam the Earth.

The land will be divided into four zones packed with interactivity. There will even be a Camp Jurassic for the younger explorers.

The highlight of the land will no doubt be Jurassic World Adventure, where guests will board the All-Terrain Luxury Automatic System (ATLAS) as they venture into the wilderness of the island. On this brand-new adventure, riders will encounter all kinds of dinos, including the fearsome Indominus rex.

“We and our local partners, including Beijing Tourism Group, are creating one of the most magnificent theme park destinations ever built – right here in Beijing,” said Mr. Tom Mehrmann, president and general manager of Universal Beijing Resort. “It is the fruit of co-creation, merging Universal’s decades of global theme park experience with our partner’s deep insights on China. Over 100,000 constructors, more than 500 designers and artists, and more than 500 suppliers and partners from around the world jointly made the project possible, and we can’t wait to unveil this dream destination to the world next year.”
