New Universal Kids theme park won’t be open year-round

Universal has revealed a major operational detail about its upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Texas: the new park will operate seasonally rather than year-round. The information is somewhat hidden on the resort’s website.

According to the language now posted on the hotel website, Universal Kids Resort Theme Park will close on select dates throughout November, December, and January following its opening period. Listed closures currently include Nov. 3–4, 10–11, 17–18 and 26; Dec. 25; and Jan. 5–8, 11–15 and 19–31.

The notice also states that the dates are subject to change and that additional closures may be added “at the sole discretion of Universal Kids Resort Theme Park.”

Universal Kids Theme Park seasonal operations

The announcement offers one of the clearest indications yet that Universal’s new family-focused destination in Frisco, Texas will operate differently from the company’s large-scale Florida and California parks, which remain open daily year-round.

Universal Kids Resort is designed specifically for families with younger children and will feature themed lands and attractions inspired by franchises including DreamWorks’ Shrek, Trolls, Puss in Boots, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Illumination’s Minions, and Jurassic World.

Attractions Magazine has previously covered the themed lands, character experiences, and immersive play areas planned for the resort.

The seasonal schedule could be especially important for families planning holiday travel or winter break visits, as some closure periods overlap with times many guests may traditionally expect theme parks to remain open.

Universal has not yet clarified whether the closures are tied to lower-than-expected seasonal attendance, operational testing, staffing, or future expansion work. However, Universal has stated throughout the park’s development that it would operate like a regional park.

Universal Kids Resort is the first major Universal destination built specifically around younger children rather than thrill attractions. For now, families considering trips may want to closely monitor the official operating calendar before finalizing travel plans.
