Whataburger food chain to debut an in-person art museum in Austin, Texas

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, the Texas-based food chain Whataburger is turning its digital “Museum of Art” into an in-person exhibit in downtown Austin at SXSW on March 8-9, 2025.

For over 75 years and across 16 states, Whataburger has created a lot of fans. Many of these fans have shown their love for the fast food chain through art. A few years back, Whataburger intended to open a physical gallery showcasing these various paintings, sculptures, digital art pieces, and more. However, after a worldwide pandemic, those plans took a different route. In 2021, an Instagram page (@thewmoa) was created where fans can have their art featured. This is known as the “Whataburger Museum of Art.”

“Sometimes a burger is so delicious, the hospitality so sincere that mere words won’t do,” said Debbie Stroud, president and CEO of Whataburger. “That’s why some of our customers turn to paintbrushes and knitting needles. The creativity of our fans never ceases to amaze us. From illustrators and muralists to digital creators, these artists have transformed their love for Whataburger into incredible works of art. The exhibit pays homage to 75 years of goodness, and there’s no better way to recognize our community’s passion than by showcasing these customer masterpieces.”

From digital art, to pop culture, murals, abstract, and more, each piece at the Whataburger Museum of Art exhibit will have a Whataburger spin. In addition to viewing art, guests will be able to interact in some exhibits, too. In “The Table Tent Mugshot Wall” exhibit, guests can take a picture with a specialty Whataburger 75th Anniversary + SXSW 2025 Table Tent, which will only be available at this event.

Meanwhile, in the “The Whataburger Day Dot Room,” guests will be able to color a white restaurant in Whataburger “Day Dot” stickers. Another interactive area will be home to the “3D Art & Digital Displays,” a combination of stand-alone pieces, sculptures, and digital installations. Each piece of art will showcase the infinite ways that Whataburger inspires their fans and artists.

The Whataburger Museum of Art will be at Wanderlust Wine Co.

This fan-made art will be available for in-person viewing at the festival/conference SXSW. Badge-holders to this event and the public will be able to enjoy the in-person art display at Wanderlust Wine Co. in downtown Austin, Texas (610 N. Interstate Highway 35, Austin, Texas 78701). The Whataburger Museum of Art will be available March 8-9 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The Monterey Melt is back at Whataburger.
The limited-time Monterey Melt will be at the Whataburger Food Truck on Saturday during the event.

In addition to enjoying the various pieces of art, there will be a Whataburger Food Truck on Saturday, March 8, handing out samples.
