What year is it?
Take that VCR player out of the attic because Disney is about to release the first major VHS tape in nearly two decades. The 2024 film “Alien: Romulus” will be available as a limited-edition VHS beginning Dec. 3, 2024. The movie is produced by the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios.
Director Fede Álvarez announced the news via video on Oct. 19, 2024 during a Beyond Fest double-feature screening of “Alien” and “Alien: Romulus” at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Calif.
Artist Matt Ferguson designed the “Alien: Romulus” VHS cover.

According to Álvarez, the last studio film to receive a VHS release was “A History of Violence,” the 2005 film (released to VHS in 2006) directed by David Cronenberg and starring Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello.
Of course, in addition to its VHS format, “Alien: Romulus” will also be available as a Steelbook 4K and Blu-ray set and DVD, likewise dropping Dec. 3. The movie is already streaming for digital rent or purchase.
In his movie review last summer, our reporter Connor Webber called “Alien: Romulus” a “remarkable achievement for a franchise that seemingly had little to no life after the previous two entries” and “one of the best-looking films of the year.”
How can I pre-order the ‘Alien: Romulus’ VHS?
20th Century Studios has not mentioned when or how “Alien: Romulus” VHS pre-order sales will launch. The product pages for the film’s other physical releases do not yet include VHS as a purchase option.
