Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride closing at Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan has announced The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will close on Jan. 22, 2024, but first, the park is thanking fans of the opening day attraction with a six-month farewell campaign for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man 4K3D – The Ride beginning July 4, 2023.
Since opening in 2001, Universal Studios Japan has continued to evolve by bringing visitors “unbelievable excitement and awe” – and since 2020, has embraced its “No Limit!” slogan in each new experience – a theme that earned the park top honors in “Brand Japan 2023,” the country’s most extensive brand survey.
The Osaka park is a clone of Universal Studios Florida, and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man 4K3D – The Ride is housed in the building where Orlando’s Revenge of the Mummy ride is located. The popular ride has thrilled 100 million visitors since its opening on Jan. 23, 2001, but despite being the first attraction chosen as the World’s No. 1 Ride by Amusement Today for seven consecutive years, it will close its doors to make way for further evolution of the park experience.
A statement from Universal Studios Japan notes the park “believes it is our mission to grow ‘infinitely’ under the company slogan of, ‘Energizing people and society with super entertaining creativity.’”
Spider-Man The Ride Final Campaign
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man – The Ride immersed visitors in an adventure through New York City with Spider-Man by employing super high definition 4K3D visuals and ride motion technology with over 100 synchronized special effects
With heartfelt gratitude to park guests and the emotional connection and memories to the ride created over the past 20 years, Universal Studios Japan will begin the “Farewell Campaign for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man 4K3D – The Ride” on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Additional programs are planned and will be announced on the official website and social networks.
New Limited-Edition Merchandise
As part of the farewell campaign, new limited-time-only merchandise (that can only be found in the parks) will include a reissue of the fan-favorite “Spider-Man the Ride” souvenir set, plus new items featuring famous scenes from the ride.
Farewell Promotion for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man 4K3D – The Ride limited-edition design stickers to be distributed.
The Final Adventure of Spider-Man with the Universal Express Pass
A special Universal Express Pass option will be offered that shortens wait times and guarantees visitors can enjoy Spider-Man The Ride’s finale.
Guests can choose from pass types that guarantee entry to Spider-Man – The Ride twice or include limited-edition commemorative items. Prices vary according to the visit date.
Multiple Attractions to be Renewed
In addition to the closure of Spider-Man – The Ride, Universal Studios Japan will be renewing multiple attractions to offer new thrills at the park, including Terminator 2: 3D, which has been closed since Sept. 14, 2020, and Backdraft, which will also cease operation.
The press release from Universal Studios Japan says ‘”these attractions have been a wonderful part of the park, thrilling and entertaining guests for many years,” but their closures are the result of the park “striving to infinitely evolve and grow by creating ‘No Limit!’ entertainment that amazes visitors.”
