Battle Darth Vader in a new ‘Vader Immortal’ VR experience
Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment studio ILMxLAB has announced a collaboration with the location-based VR company Nomadic to produce “Vader Immortal – Lightsaber Dojo: A Star Wars VR Experience,” an extension of the successful launch of “Lightsaber Dojo” last year.
The immersive virtual reality experience inspired by the original “Episode III Lightsaber Dojo” from the award-winning “Vader Immortal” series represents the next evolution of the arcade-style lightsaber training. Fans will be armed with iconic lightsabers, blasters, and the Force as they combat droids and stormtroopers before engaging in an epic duel against Darth Vader himself.
“Nomadic is thrilled to once again partner with ILMxLAB to bring guests into the world of Star Wars,” said Sean Griffin, president of Nomadic. “Our new form factor will deliver a more immersive experience for players, will provide a social viewing experience for their friends and family, and is more efficient for family entertainment centers and arcades to operate. We can’t wait for Star Wars fans worldwide to experience it.”
A top-of-the-line VR headset will transport players to the virtual world where they will select their lightsaber and difficulty level. Fans will then be transported to Mustafar, the fiery planet that Darth Vader calls home. Here, the action takes place inside a custom dojo that offers players dual-wielding, dual-bladed lightsabers, blasters, and Force lightning to engage in combat against stormtroopers and droids before Darth Vader makes his entrance for the final challenge.
“The ILMxLAB team is excited to bring a new chapter to the Lightsaber Dojo experience,” said ILMxLAB senior producer, Shereif Fattouh. “Fans will soon have the unique opportunity to battle Darth Vader himself using all their abilities in the ultimate test of skill.”
Gameplay was designed to be highly-accessible for novice VR users while still challenging experienced fans. A leaderboard will allow players to track how they rate as they continue to improve their skills.
