From Burger King to Five Guys: CityWalk’s upgrade could cost you more
Universal Orlando Resort is preparing to make a noticeable change at CityWalk, with the Burger King Whopper Bar set to close on April 21 to make way for a new Five Guys location opening later this summer.

Once upon a time, Universal Orlando opened the “world’s first Burger King Whopper Bar.” In 2009, the concept opened at CityWalk and has been one of the first sights guests see as they depart the moving walkways and enter the bustling destination of CityWalk.

A quick look back at the Burger King Whopper Bar
Before it closes on April 21, it’s worth remembering that the Burger King Whopper Bar at Universal CityWalk wasn’t just another fast food location when it opened in 2009.
At the time, the concept was positioned as a more modern, streamlined take on the traditional Burger King experience. Located near the main entrance on the second floor next to the theater, the Whopper Bar focused heavily on its signature item, offering variations like the Angry Whopper, Western Whopper, and Ultimate Double Whopper.
The goal was to bring Burger King into high-traffic entertainment destinations like CityWalk with a format designed specifically for those environments. It marked one of the first attempts by the brand to step outside its standard restaurant model and experiment with something more tailored to tourists and theme park crowds.

Now, after 15 years at CityWalk Orlando, the location is set to close, making way for a new chapter as Universal continues to update and evolve its dining lineup.
What’s replacing it and why it may cost you more
As Universal prepares to close the Whopper Bar on April 21, a new Five Guys location is set to take its place later this summer, bringing a different kind of fast-casual experience to CityWalk.
Chances are that change will come with higher prices for guests. While Burger King has traditionally been one of the more affordable options at CityWalk, Five Guys typically lands in the fast-casual tier, where a meal often averages around $15 to $20 per person, depending on toppings, fries, and a drink.
This change comes along with other enhancements to Universal CityWalk Orlando, including the previously announced Luke Combs’ Category 10 entertainment venue.

For visitors planning a summer trip to Universal Orlando Resort, this is the kind of small but noticeable change that can add up over the course of a day. As CityWalk continues to evolve, it’s something to keep in mind when mapping out where to eat between park time, especially during a busy summer visit in Orlando.
Consider it one more upgrade to plan around… and maybe one more reason to budget a little extra.
