From a rescued manatee to bear cubs, theme parks are full of cute animal stories right now
A wave of animal stories is emerging across theme parks this spring, including a wildlife rescue in Florida, newborn animals and unexpected bonds in parks across the country.

Theme parks around the U.S. have a few extra reasons to celebrate the spring season. Some are celebrating humankind’s relationship with animals in adorable ways. While new rides and attractions often take center stage, these moments give guests a different reason to pay attention.

A rescued manatee returns to Florida waters
At SeaWorld Orlando, a manatee named Melby has been successfully returned to the wild after months of rehabilitation. The 3- to 5-year-old manatee was originally found trapped in a storm drain in Melbourne Beach and rescued in a complex, multi-agency effort.

After receiving around-the-clock care at SeaWorld Orlando’s manatee rehabilitation center, Melby gained more than 100 pounds before being released back into the Eau Gallie River. SeaWorld Orlando has made a name for itself with thrilling coasters and wonderful entertainment, but its greatest treasure is the stewardship of aquatic life. This manatee rescue and release highlights the ongoing role theme parks and accredited facilities play in wildlife conservation and rehabilitation.

Baby animals make their debut at parks
New animal arrivals are also drawing attention at several theme parks and amusement parks.
At Six Flags Great Adventure, guests can now see a brown bear cub named JJ alongside his mother in the Wild Safari. The cub is visible through both the drive-through safari experience and guided tours. Six Flags Great Adventure is now open for the season.

At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, a pair of rare Bengal tiger cubs has made their debut, offering guests a first look as they explore their new habitat. The arrival highlights both the power and beauty of these apex predators, while also drawing attention to ongoing conservation efforts.

Three little piglets
Meanwhile, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, three red river hog piglets have been born behind the scenes and are currently being cared for by Disney’s animal care team.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is separate from the theme park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and offers guests a chance to encounter a variety of unique animals not found in the park. Red river hogs have found a home at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, since their cousins, the African hogs, have a home at ‘Kilimanjaro Safari’ inside the Animal Kingdom theme park.

Unexpected animal bonds are capturing attention
Not all of the attention is on new arrivals. At Wild Adventures Theme Park, an unusual bond between a zebra named Kurtsie and a giraffe named Bakari is gaining interest among guests. Kurtsie, a zebra born in December 2023, and Bakari, a giraffe born in 2018, reside at the Giraffe Overlook.
The two animals share a mixed-species habitat and are often seen resting together, grooming, and interacting during feeding times. Animal care specialists say the relationship reflects natural social behaviors and highlights the benefits of shared environments.

Wild Adventures Theme Park is a regional amusement park about three hours north of Orlando, in Valdosta, Ga. A diverse collection of more than 90 animal species, ranging from exotic mammals and birds to reptiles and amphibians, provides a variety of experiences in one location. At 170 acres, there are over 35 amusement-park-style rides, special events, and a water park.
As the 2026 spring and summer vacation seasons get underway, these animal stories serve as an important reminder of our connection to the natural world.
