Carowinds construction update: New Snoopy coaster track + potential prep for 2026 ride

Carowinds construction projects are in motion as Camp Snoopy expands for 2025 and a mystery project begins near Rip Roarin’ Rapids.

We visited Carowinds on Dec. 8, 2024 and captured photos of construction progress from high above the park onboard the Carolina Skytower. Let’s check in on Camp Snoopy, as well as potential construction activity at the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids, which may or may not be connected to a future 2026 Carowinds ride.

Camp Snoopy construction at Carowinds

The Peanuts-themed Camp Snoopy area will debut two new attractions during Carowinds’ 2025 season that are currently under construction: the Snoopy’s Racing Railway roller coaster and the Charlie Brown’s River Raft Blast water attraction.

In the photos below, you can see:

  • track for Snoopy’s Racing Railway laid out in a corner of the guest parking lot
  • the former Camp Snoopy theater and kiddie train completely removed
  • construction ongoing adjacent to existing attractions such as the Thunder Striker (formerly Intimidator) roller coaster, Peanuts Pirates, and the Woodstock Express wooden coaster

Activity at Rip Roarin’ Rapids site

Meanwhile near the park entrance, guests who look to their right when walking across the bridge into Celebration Plaza may notice a sign labeled “jobsite entrance,” indicating construction and pointing toward the Carowinds Paladium and the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids. The raft ride has been closed for several years, but much of its ride path and queue has remained in place, abandoned. Though there’s not much obvious progress visible from the Skytower, there is at least one small construction vehicle within the ride’s domain.

In November, Six Flags announced that Carowinds will open a “record-breaking water attraction” in 2026. The activity at the former Rip Roarin’ Rapids site may or may not be related to that project.

The teal roller coaster visible in some of the photos below is Fury 325.

The Rip Roarin’ Rapids property juts up against the Carowinds Paladium, a concert venue which the park revived last summer with an experimental concert series. Carowinds has not announced what the future of this area may be or if construction will extend to the amphitheater.
