Cast Member earns Disney Heroes Award for saving a guest’s life
When guests visit Disney parks and resorts, they expect to meet their favorite Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel heroes; however, Cast Members can also be heroes, including Disney Vacation Club Sales Experience Manager Nichole Shaw, who was honored with the Disney Heroes Award for saving a young girl from choking at Walt Disney World Resort.

On the day Nichole was given the award, she thought she was being invited to listen in on an executive meeting, but it turned out the meeting was to honor her.
“Being a Disney Hero means so much more than saving a life,” Nichole said. “Having this award…is a reminder that I’m capable of anything – even the scary things. You are a hero if you’re able to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders but still come to work and then go back home and deal with what you have to deal with, that’s not easy, but the fact that you’re able to do it – and you do it every day – makes you a hero too.”
Nichole also hopes her Disney Hero Award pin will inspire everyone who asks her what it means.

“I hope that this pin will not only be a reflection of something that happened in my life, but will also…help [other people] see that they are heroes right along with me.”
The Disney Heroes Award recognizes Cast Members, Crew, and Employees who perform life-saving acts (on or off the clock). Since the award was introduced in 2008, over 850 Disney Heroes across the company (and around the world) have been recognized.
