Construction Update: First look at the amazing portal into Universal Monsters land in Epic Universe
We’ve been following the progress of Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park set to open in Summer 2025, and thanks to @bioreconstruct on X, we have new photos of construction on the park’s rumored classic Universal Monsters land.
Aerial photos show the land’s entrance and village in the land based on classic Universal Monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, and more. Universal Orlando hasn’t officially announced what this land will be themed to, but thanks to Bioreconstruct’s photos, permits filed, and more, we are confident it will be Universal’s classic monsters.
Portal to Dark Universe
The entrance to the Universal Monsters-themed land features sculpted rocks, tree roots, and detailed vines.
At the top of the entry portal is a tower expected to have lighting and/or lighting effects. Bioreconstruct has labeled the following:
- Wiring for an effect or lighting (1)
- A themed ring and insulator (2)
- Patina painted in the metal (3)
- Conduits (4, 5, 6)
Guests will enter each of the theme park’s lands through a “portal” entryway. Here’s a closer look at the rockwork vines.
Classic Universal Monsters Land Construction
According to Orlando Park Stop, guests will pass through the portal and walk under a broken bridge before entering a European-style village (an uneven rooftop in the village is marked with an arrow in the photo below).
In another aerial photo (below) of the recent Universal Monsters land construction, we can see the following:
- Scaffolding up for theming this building (1)
- Manor entry now in scaffolding (2)
- Orange coating might be a base layer for masonry (3)
- Scaffolding removed, revealing a doorway (4)
The land is expected to have an indoor attraction with a similar ride system to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Forest, but featuring all of Universal’s most popular monsters. Universal has trademarked the name “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.” There is also expected to be an outdoor spinning roller coaster themed to the Wolfman, plus restaurants and shopping.
You can see more of bioreconstruct’s aerial photos of Universal Epic Universe construction for Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon, and the Wizarding World area of the park.
We will continue to share construction updates as the park nears it’s 2025 grand opening date. Click here for information and updates from Universal.
