New ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ ride spotted in Epic Universe

One of the lands rumored to be coming to Universal Orlando’s new Epic Universe theme park is a “How to Train Your Dragon” area, and in fact, the park’s first dragon has already been spotted by @Bioreconstruct, who posted new aerial photos on X of the land’s twin spinning rides.

The pair of spinning rides in the “How To Train Your Dragon-“themed area is at the center of the photo below, with the yellow tracks of the park’s dual-racing roller coaster in the background. Although the dueling coaster is not expected to be themed to “How to Train your Dragon”, @bioreconstruct notes the foundations along the roller coaster may be themed as grandstands for a dragon race.

Additional photos suggest arms mounted on barrel-style bases will each have five ride vehicles at one end with counterweights on the other side, one themed to a blue dragon and the other to a red dragon – perhaps a nod to Dragon Challenge/Dueling Dragons that closed to make way for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in Islands of Adventure?

Bioreconstruct guesses the two dragons on the counterweights will “propel” riders in circles, which leads us to think the twin dragon-themed spinning rides may be a Sky Fly ride by Gerstalauer, similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock ride in Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America:

Even though there’s obvious “How to Train Your Dragon” theming in this area of Epic Universe, we still call it rumored because the only land officially announced for Epic Universe so far is Super Nintendo World.

We recently wrote about more “How to Train Your Dragon” props and rides appearing in Epic Universe, including a roller coaster and these large statues.

Universal Epic Universe is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025; until then, we’ll continue to watch for construction updates. Click here to sign up for email updates from Universal Orlando Resort.
