‘How to Train Your Dragon’ area construction takes off at Epic Universe
We’ve been closely following the construction of Universal Epic Universe, and thanks to bioreconstruct on Twitter, we have the latest views of the “How to Train Your Dragon” area or land at Universal Orlando Resort’s third theme park, which seems to be on track for a summer 2025 opening date.
First off, we must state that none of the lands or themes for any of the new theme park have officially been announced, except for Super Nintendo World. But as construction continues across the new park, progress is particularly notable for an area themed to DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon” movies, including what looks like a family-friendly multi-launch coaster.
In the aerial overview photo below, we can see work is underway on many of the land’s elements:
- The first tower of two spinning ride towers
- The foundation for the second tower
- Concrete work at a roller coaster station
- Unload/load platform for the land’s boat ride
- The location for a bridge connecting sections of the bay that will front the land
The images below show the entrance, including close-ups of two large Viking statues and two Viking ships. If you watch the “How to Train Your Dragon” movies, you’ll see those statues.
Bioreconstruct labeled the photos below as follows:
- Bridge pending between sections of the bay
- What appears to be a correlation between the bay wall and the concrete wall
- A third Viking boat appears to be under the scrims
Another overview photo shows us what Bioreconstruct labels as:
- The Great Hall restaurant
- The coaster station and first launch
- The coaster service bay
- A service building
- Power for this side of the park and what appears to be a chilled water plant
Now, let’s take a closer look. This photo shows the “How to Train Your Dragon” roller coaster station and first launch. The station’s roof features themed rough edges and “misaligned cross members.”
Below, we can see the roller coaster’s second launch (dark track) as work also progresses on the park’s highly-anticipated dual-racing roller coaster (yellow tracks). The dueling roller coaster is not expected to be themed to “How To Train Your Dragon;” it’s just expected to be tied to the overall theme of the park.
We can also see construction continuing on the two towers which will serve as foundations for spinning rides, the circular Great Hall restaurant area, and a boat ride.
The two photos below give us a look inside the land’s theater (at the bottom of the close-up is a roof truss ready for installation).
The theater is expected to house an attraction similar to the “Untrainable” show at Universal Studios Beijing.
The 750-acare Universal Epic Universe complex will feature the theme park plus an entertainment center, hotels, shops, restaurants, and more. Stay tuned for more construction updates as we get closer to the 2025 opening date, and click here for updates from Universal.
