D23 2025 events: Destination D23 in Orlando, virtual panels, California tour

D23, the official Disney fan club, announced a partial list of 2025 member events on Nov. 25, 2024.

Destination D23 2025

The year’s largest event will be Destination D23, held at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Fla. from Aug. 29-31, 2025. The biennial convention alternates years with California’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event (formerly called “D23 Expo”).

New for 2025, Destination D23 will be hosted at the convention center of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The event was previously held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort convention space; with the location change, Destination D23 will be “more than doubling in size” for its 2025 iteration.

Destination D23 2025’s theme will be “A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney.” Newly released artwork depicts Mickey Mouse carrying a briefcase, along with Carl Fredricksen’s house from “Up,” Jumba’s spaceship from “Lilo & Stitch,” and Captain Nemo’s submarine from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Disney has not announced specific programming for Destination D23 2025 beyond “exclusive presentations from the Walt Disney Archives and Walt Disney Studios, as well as spectacular entertainment and peeks into all the worlds of Disney.”

Ticket information remains unannounced, but interested attendees can book a room at Coronado Springs as part of D23’s reserved block.

Destination D23 (originally called “Destination D” upon its debut in 2010) was initially squarely focused on Disney history, contrasting with D23 Expo’s flashy reveals toward the future. As the years have progressed, Destination D23 has included more and more announcement-based programming, and fans can typically expect some theme park news at some point during the weekend.

For example, during Destination D23 2023, Disney Experiences Chairperson Josh D’Amaro announced Country Bear Musical Jamboree and the reimagining of Test Track, and teased possibilities for attractions that would ultimately become Tropical Americas and “Zootopia: Better Zoogether” at Animal Kingdom, among other news.

Virtual panels, tour of Los Angeles

In addition to Destination D23, other D23 member events in 2025 will include two new offerings.

D23 Gold Theater will be a series of virtual presentations, sometimes live and others being playback from previous D23 panels. The first three D23 Gold Theater presentations will be:

• Jolly Holiday: A D23 Musical Celebration of Richard M. Sherman (playback from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2024)
• The Happiest Place on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland with Don Hahn and Chris Merritt (authors of an upcoming coffee-table book of the same name)
• Weird Disney, another installment of a recurring panel series hosted by Becky Cline, director of the Walt Disney Archives

D23 will also debut Walt Disney’s Los Angeles Tour, a guided tour of “locations of personal significance” to Walt Disney throughout Southern California, including his office at the Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank.

As is tradition, D23 will celebrate milestone anniversaries in 2025 with to-be-announced special events commemorating the following:

• “The Emperor’s New Groove” 25th anniversary
• “A Goofy Movie” 30th anniversary
• “Toy Story” 30th anniversary
• “Home Alone” 35th anniversary
• Disneyland’s 70th anniversary

Returning D23 events from years past include:

• D23 Spotlight Series, in-person, to-be-announced presentations about Disney history in Orlando, Fla. and Los Angeles, Calif.
• The Walt Disney Studios Official Tour, a recurring guided tour in Burbank, Calif.
• D23 Night with the Anaheim Ducks on March 23
• D23 Day at Angel Stadium on May 25

Different for 2025, D23 will switch the “Disney twenty-three” magazine from print to digital as a default for members; physical copies will be available at an extra cost. Additionally, membership options, starting at $50, now allow members to select their member gift from several choices.
