D23 Expo 2022 will unveil Walt Disney Archives’ ‘Step in Time’ exhibition and rare artifacts

Walt Disney Archives celebrates the Walt Disney Company’s 100-history with the all-new exhibit “Step in Time” during this year’s expo hosted by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club.

To kick off the Disney100 celebration of the Walt Disney Company’s 100th year, the new chronological exhibition will showcase historical assets held by the Walt Disney Archives, including immersive, themed environments from Disney’s animated shorts, films, and film premiers, plus television productions and Disney park properties such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Mary Poppins,” “Tron,” and Walt Disney World Resort’s Haunted Mansion.

Fans can view iconic Disney moments during the course of the event, which takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center from September 9-11, 2022, as they “Step in Time” into nine immersive areas highlighting extraordinary Disney events from the past century to present day.

Among the settings are the chance to captain the boat in “Steamboat Willie,” walk the blue carpet for the premier of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and see the carousel horses from “Mary Poppins.”

Additionally, Guests will be serenaded by Breathless Mahoney at Club Ritz from the movie “Dick Tracey,” pay a visit to Flynn’s Arcade from the movie “Tron,” and meet the Haunted Mansion’s ghostly bride.

Rare historical objects will be on display in recreations of their original settings, such as Walt Disney’s Grumman Gulfstream I airplane, which has undergone an exterior restoration and will be exhibited in the Arena of the Anaheim Convention Center.

Newly-curated items representing the history of the aircraft will also be available for viewing, including a customized instrument panel, a telephone handset used by Walt Disney, and a flight bag featuring the image of Mickey Mouse sitting on the airplane’s tail.

Fans will also gain insights into the 50-year legacy of the Main Street Electrical Parade and Walt Disney World’s first five decades, and take a look at the Mickey Mouse Club of the 1980s and 1990s.

More than a dozen panels and presentations will take to the Walt Disney Archives Stage, including Disney Legend Bill Farmer, Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline, author and historian Graham Allan, Walt Disney Imagineering global ambassador Bob Weis, Imagineers from the Illusioneering Lab, and artist Stacia Martin.

At 10 a.m. on September 10, attendees can join the Archives team and special guests as they discuss the creation of the upcoming Disney100: The Exhibition, which will open at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in February 2023.

Single-day September 11 tickets for D23 Expo 2022 are $99 per adult, $79 ages three-12, or $89 for Gold Members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club. Single-day tickets for September 10 and three-day tickets are sold out.
