Danse Macabre POV video: First-of-its-kind turntable ride system
Danse Macabre is now open at Efteling, and the park shared a POV video of the spinning, spooky new ride.
Happy Halloween! Danse Macabre now open
Fittingly for Halloween, the new Danse Macabre attraction opened on Oct. 31, 2024 at Efteling in the Netherlands. The attraction introduces a new ride system to the themed entertainment industry.
Riders on Danse Macabre sit in one of six 18-passenger vehicles. Each vehicle is positioned on its own turntable, and all the turntables collectively sit upon a larger turntable. As the individual turntables spin, so too does the larger one, in addition to tilting vertically. All of this takes place in a haunted fortress, and as riders spin, a ghostly animatronic conductor levitates above them and the classic “Danse Macabre” orchestration by Camille Saint-Saëns swells.

Danse Macabre was first announced in 2022 and replaced the park’s former Spookslot Haunted House attraction. In addition to the ride itself, Efteling also debuted a new themed area surrounding the ride called Huyverwoud, complete with new retail and dining locations.
