Disney auction features memorabilia from the studio and theme parks

The two-day “Pop Culture, Disney Studio, and Disney Parks” auction curated by Van Eaton Galleries will take place on Nov. 11 and 12, 2023, offering the chance to bid on movie and TV posters, props, costumes, animation art, and Disney studio and parks memorabilia.

Day 1: Pop Culture and Disney Studio Auction (Lots 1-692)

Among the big ticket items on Day 1 are an original concept painting for “Alice in Wonderland” by Disney Legend Mary Blair (Lot 528) that’s estimated to sell for $15,000 – $20,000 and an original concept painting by Eyvind Earle for “Sleeping Beauty” (Lot 575)  that’s estimated at $7,000 – $9,000.

Also up for auction on Day 1 is a collection of 18 extremely rare Walt Disney Studio photostat storyboards from the production of “Mary Poppins” (Lot 587). These photographic reproductions of the storyboards for the film were used by animators for reference during the production (estimated to sell for $1,000 – $2,000).

A one-of-a-kind collection of 236 35mm color slides of Muppet Show and Muppet movie productions (Lot 314), including never reproduced images of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and other performers operating the characters, is estimated to sell for $1,000 – $2,000).

Day 2: The Disney Studio and Parks Auction (Lots 693-1208)

Disney theme parks take center stage on Day 2 with an extremely rare Mickey Mouse Character Head (Lot 823) and a rare Goofy Character Head (Lot 824) from 1970s Walt Disney World walk-around character costumes, estimated to sell for $15,000 – $20,000 each.

A large Dwarf’s Mine gemstone prop from “Snow White’s Adventures” at The Magic Kingdom (Lot 1070), which was part of the original attraction and was positioned over the exit of the last climatic show scene (where the witch attempts to push it onto passing mine cars) is estimated at $2,000 – $4,000.

Also on the block is an early beehive lamp from the Pooh Corner Shop in Disneyland’s Critter Country (Lot 1043) – possibly the only one of the original paper lamps that has survived (later versions were constructed of more durable materials). The lamp is also estimated to sell for $2,000 – $4,000.

“Pop Culture, Disney Studio, and Disney Parks” Exhibition and Auction

A free exhibition at Van Eaton Galleries in Studio City, Calif., runs Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Nov. 10, 2023. The Live Auction will take place at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11  and 12, 2023 (in-person, online, phone, and absentee bidding are available).
