Disney confirms – Tron Lightcycle / Run requires using lockers

For the first time in a U.S. based Disney Park, riders will be required to use lockers for larger items before boarding. Disney Parks Twitter confirmed this rumor after months of us all wondering how items such as phone and backpacks would be secured while riding motorcycle-style on Tron Lightcycle / Run.

Tron lockers will be in use

For fifty years of thrill rides and roller coasters, Walt Disney World Resort has allowed guests to bring items right up to their ride vehicle. But now, with the opening of Magic Kingdom’s fastest ever roller coaster, Disney is introducing lockers. We saw a form of this at Avatar – Flight of Passage when it opened in 2017. This attraction had storage compartments located behind rider’s vehicles. While not necessarily a locker, this did require guests to part from their phones, backpacks, and other loose items.

Riders will be able to use these Tron lockers via their MagicBands or park tickets. While it isn’t explicitly stated, it can also be assumed the MagicMobile tickets on smartphone devices can activate these lockers as well.

On-ride vehicle storage is built into the Tron Lightcycle / Run bikes.

It has also been confirmed that there will be limited secure-storage built into the Tron Lightcycle / Run ride vehicles. The yellow highlighted item is an iPhone. The sizing isn’t specified for the storage compartments. So we are not sure whether that is a standard iPhone or the iPhone Max larger size. Although the storage units seem large enough to fit most smartphone devices and small medical bags. We are hopeful Disney put the larger sized phones into account, especially with how popular larger smartphones are.

While not shown in the video, we assume Disney will have a sizing guide available online and in-person to show what can fit into these ride vehicle storage units.

Tron Lightcycle / Run opens Apr. 4 at Magic Kingdom Park. But cast member and annual pass holder previews begin in less than two weeks. Are you ready to launch into The Grid?
