Disney World’s iconic Grand Floridian gingerbread house holiday display may be gone
One single social media post has sent Disney fans into a blizzard’s worth of responses and speculation. A post shared by theme park reporter Scott Gustin on X claims Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will not feature its iconic gingerbread house during the 2026 holiday season.

On the day Disney announced dates for the 2026 holiday season at Walt Disney World, there came a lump of coal. According to Gustin, Walt Disney World’s culinary team is expected to create smaller gingerbread displays throughout the resort instead of constructing the massive walk-through gingerbread house that has traditionally occupied the Grand Floridian lobby. The move could signal the beginning of a new holiday tradition at the resort.
The gingerbread house was notably absent last holiday season as construction continued in the Grand Floridian lobby. Many fans assumed the full-sized gingerbread house would return once work in the lobby was complete.

The history of the house
The Grand Floridian gingerbread house has been one of Walt Disney World’s signature holiday traditions since 1999, when the life-sized display debuted in the resort lobby. The display celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024 and has become a seasonal destination for many guests, who visit to admire the elaborate craftsmanship and purchase holiday treats sold from a shop inside the structure.
Over the years, Disney’s pastry team has used hundreds of pounds of ingredients to create the Victorian-inspired house, including more than 1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, and 600 pounds of powdered sugar. The display has become as much a part of the Grand Floridian’s holiday identity as the resort’s towering Christmas tree and live lobby entertainment.
