Disney Lorcana: 2024 release dates, championships, new products
Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game will expand in 2024 with more familiar Disney characters in new forms — like Jim Hawkins, Stitch, Tinker Bell, and others — plus local and worldwide championships.
What Is Disney Lorcana?
Disney Lorcana is a trading card game (TCG) with intricate lore based on classic Disney characters re-imagined. Lorcana is the name of the magical realm in which the game takes place. Within the game’s backstory, Disney says, “Players take on the role of Illumineers and wield magic ink to summon a team of Disney characters known as glimmers, who appear in both familiar and fantastical ways.”
Disney collaborated with board game company Ravensburger to launch Lorcana in August 2023. Other Disney/Ravensburger team-ups include Disney Villainous and the upcoming Chronicles of Light: Darkness Falls (Disney Edition).
Each Disney Lorcana player needs 60 cards to begin. The first two sets of Lorcana cards were entitled “The First Chapter” and “Rise of the Floodborn.” The third set, “Into the Inklands,” debuts next month.

Disney Lorcana will debut four new sets in 2024:

Into the Inklands
The backstory for Into the Inklands is as follows:
The flood has washed precious lore far into the Inklands! Eager to recover what was lost, adventurous Illumineers head into the unknown reaches of the realm. Wonders and mystery await them at every turn, but their goal remains. The scattered lore must be returned to the Hall of Lorcana … before it falls into the wrong hands.

Some of the characters depicted on Into the Inklands trading cards include:
- Minnie Mouse, Funky Spelunker
- Piglet, Pooh Pirate Captain
- Peter Pan, Lost Boy Leader
- Jim Hawkins, Space Traveler
The launch of Into the Inklands will include new starter decks, booster packs, card sleeves, deck boxes featuring Robin Hood and Scrooge McDuck, and play mats featuring Moana and Stitch.
For superfans, Disney and Ravensburger will also sell an Illumineer’s Trove featuring a storage box and eight booster packs and a gift set featuring Stitch and Tinker Bell oversized cards and four booster packs.
Into the Inklands Set Championships
Beginning in April, select retail locations will host Into the Inklands Set Championships. Winners at these events will receive an exclusive Stitch card. The top two players at each location will also receive an exclusive Stitch play mat.
Disney will announce more details about how interested store managers can participate in the Into the Inklands Set Championships in February.
Disney Lorcana Challenge
Disney Lorcana Challenge, an official competitive circuit, will launch in May 2024 in North America and Europe.
Prospective champions will begin by playing at a regional qualifier. The top four players from each regional event will earn a spot at either the North American Championship or European Championship, both planned for the 2024 holiday season. From there, top players will move on to the World Championship in early 2025.
Disney will announce details about Disney Lorcana Challenge registration in March.
Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway, A New Product for Beginners
For new players, Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway will debut Aug. 9, 2024. Disney describes the product as “a progressive learn-to-play experience designed to ease new players” into Disney Lorcana and trading card games at large.
Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway will include:
- Two 30-card basic Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game decks
- A two-player game board with character standees
- Rules and player guide
- Additional cards to add, as players get the hang of the game

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Throwback
Theme park fans who play Disney Lorcana may fondly remember Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. Players of the interactive game, which debuted in 2012, traversed all over Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, using collectible (and free) trading cards to cast spells against Disney villains. Over the years, Disney introduced new cards and sold card-storage binders for collectors. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom was discontinued in 2021.

I may have missed it but there were a number of party cards given out at Mickey’s Not So Scary and Mickey’s Very Merry. The cards were marked P1 , P2 , etc. There were also beta cards given out before the game officially opened. These differed from the regular cards in the edges (either rounded or squared off). There were also nine cards issued in Eyes And Ears for cast members. They can be identified by their serrated (pull apart) edges.
I hope Disney resurrects the game in some form. It could towards the end be played with cards on your cell phone.
