Disney parks ‘Make It Blue’ to celebrate Disney+ Day

Disney parks invite guests to celebrate Disney+ Day on Sept. 8, 2022, by “plussing” their day with special offerings at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and others.

The day will start with extra magic for Disney+ subscribers with valid admission and reservations (and their travel party) who will be able to enter the theme parks at Disneyland and Walt Disney World 30 minutes before regular park opening. In addition, guests staying at Walt Disney World and Disneyland resort hotels (with valid admission and a reservation) will have the opportunity to enter 60 minutes before regular park opening at any Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort theme parks.

But that’s not all! Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can attend a special screening at Movies Under the Stars, and guests staying at the hotels of the Disneyland Resort are invited to stop by Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa for a movie screening.

Subscribers can also enjoy complimentary Disney PhotoPass photo downloads at select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Disneyland Resort theme parks that day, “plus” Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature Disney+ character meet-and-greets and cavalcades. Fans in the parks and at home in the U.S. can join the celebrations digitally with limited-time PhotoPass Lenses available through Snapchat and the My Disney Experience app.

Disney+ Day experiences at the Disneyland Resort

“It’s too good to be blue at Disneyland Resort,” wrote Disney parks Editorial Content Director Thomas Smith in the Disney Parks Blog.“Be on the lookout for commemorative chalk art at the Downtown Disney District and at the Disneyland Hotel […], fun and festive food and beverage throughout the Disneyland Resort, [and] strike a starry pose at Hollywood Land with a photo op featuring Mater and Lightning McQueen before vrooming over to Cars Land – inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie “Cars” – to meet the four-wheeled stars themselves.”

Speaking of fun and festive food and beverage offerings, blue-dusted churros will only be available on Disney+ Day at Buena Vista Street and Grizzly Peak in Disney California Adventure park and near Sleeping Beauty Castle and Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland in Disneyland park. “Plus,” three true-blue cocktails will be available in the Downtown Disney District: an Ocean Breeze at Naples Ristorante E Bar, a Blue Hawaiian at Uva Bar & Cafe, and a Tropical Margarita at Tortilla Jo’s.

International Disney+ Day celebrations

Disneyland Paris will join in the fun on Sept. 8, 2022, with entertainment developed especially for the occasion, photo opportunities with Disney PhotoPass, and a blue-themed chocolate hazelnut donut. And, for the first time, Disney+ subscribers and their party with theme park tickets and reservations will be able to enter Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris 30 minutes before the regular park opening time.

Hong Kong Disneyland will celebrate Disney+ Day with guests visiting the park on Sept. 10, 2022, and during the Aug. 29-Sept. 5, 2022 Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise aboard the Disney Wonder, Disney+ members will receive special gifts and nine exclusive shows and experiences supporting current and upcoming Disney+ programming.

To enter theme parks early and receive special benefits, guests may be required to verify their Disney+ subscription by displaying their logged-in home screen on the Disney+ app via their phone, so they should be sure to download the Disney+ app and sign in before arrival.

Disney+ content premieres

The Disney+ Day content lineup will feature global premieres from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and The Simpsons, including a new episode of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and the previously-announced  “Cars on the Road” series starring Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen and Larry the Cable Guy as Mater; the “Growing Up” hybrid docu-series created by Brie Larson; “Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory” featuring the 29-year-old National Geographic Explorer; and “Pinocchio” starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio,  Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, and Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy.

New content coming to Disney+ includes:

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” – The God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) embarks on a journey of self-discovery, but his efforts are interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who wields his magical hammer as the Mighty Thor.

“Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder” – Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, and Tessa Thompson divulge the secrets behind the creation of “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

“Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return” – This documentary from Lucasfilm and Supper Club explores the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in the original limited series (and Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to their respective roles) with never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage – including visits to the creature shop and props department – and personal stories from director Deborah Chow, cast, and crew as they reflect on their journey to tell a new story with iconic “Star Wars” characters while introducing new heroes and villains into the saga.

“Frozen” and “Frozen 2” Sing-Alongs – New Sing-Along versions of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen” and “Frozen 2” with on-screen lyrics.

“Remembering” – An original short film by Emmy-winning director Elijah Allan-Blitz that follows a writer (played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson) who loses a very important idea when her phone rings. Personified as golden light, this lost idea is found by the writer’s inner child, who takes viewers through The World of Imagination. Through a first-of-its-kind companion Augmented Reality app (where images in the film trigger the AR experience), select Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. can interact with the story by scanning their TV to extend The World of Imagination into their living room.

“Welcome to the Club” (a new short from The Simpsons) – Set on becoming a princess, Lisa Simpson is surprised to learn being bad might be more fun.

“Dancing with the Stars: The Pros’ Most Memorable Dances” – A look back on the 20 most memorable dances from the thirty seasons of “Dancing with the Stars” chosen by the Pro-Dancers. Hosts Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Cheryl Burke, and Brandon Armstrong count down the most unforgettable performances, including the best Mirrorball-winning dances, opening numbers, Emmy-winning routines, and unfortunate celebrity mishaps.

“Tierra Incógnita” – This original Series Produced in Latin America follows Eric Dalaras (Pedro Maurizi), a teenager who discovers a hair-raising world while searching for the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of his parents eight years before. Eric decides to run away and return to his childhood town, Cabo Qwert, to find answers where his parents were last seen: the Tierra Incógnita horror theme park.

AMC Theatres Disney+ Day screenings

From September 8-19, select AMC Theatres will celebrate Disney+ Day with screenings of fan-favorite movies, including “Encanto,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Cars,” and “Newsies.” Tickets are $5 per screening and are available to everyone. Attendees will receive a free Disney+ poster (while supplies last), and a special concessions offer will be available for subscribers. Tickets will be on sale on Sept. 1, 2022.

Additional Disney+ Day subscriber perks will be announced in the lead-up to Sept. 8, 2022.
