Disney tops the list of most tattooed brands in the world

It’s no secret Disney fans are very connected to the brand’s characters and stories, so it’s also no surprise that a study of Instagram hashtags revealed Disney tops the list of most tattooed brands in the world.

To determine the companies with the most tattoos, coupon website DealA compiled a list of 70 popular brands across a range of industries. They then researched the number of Instagram posts tagged with the brand name followed by the word tattoo (as of Dec. 12, 2021) and ranked the top 50 by the number of hashtags.

1. Disney – 474,458 Hashtags

Most Tattooed Brands - Media

Media brands are the most-tattooed of all sectors studied, with 477,449 Instagram posts for brands on DealA’s list, but the top brand by a mile is Disney, with more tattoo posts on Instagram than all the other brands combined. The impressive longevity of the brand definitely helped it achieve the top spot, but its diversity is also reflected in tattoo designs ranging from classic characters like Mickey Mouse and Disney Princesses to the modern Avengers and Star Wars heroes.

The second most-tattooed media brand is Nickelodeon, with 1,784 Instagram posts for #nickelodeontattoo, but Netflix tattoos also rank in the top 50.

2. Nintendo – 43,648 Hashtags

Most Tattooed Brands - Gaming

With popular series including Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Smash Bros, the Japanese video game company Nintendo has a worldwide impact and dedicated fans, which explains why it’s one of the most-tattooed brands, including ink featuring specific characters like Pokémon, Kirby, and Bowser.

Following Nintendo is PlayStation with 6,682 Instagram posts tagged #playstationtattoo.

3. Harley-Davidson – 11,804 Hashtags

Most Tattooed Brands - Auto

Although cars are a popular tattoo choice, bikers and fans have overwhelmingly shown their love of the iconic American brand Harley-Davidson Motor Company with tattoos featuring the Harley-Davidson logo along with skulls, eagles, flames, and American flags.

Volkswagen is in second place with 5,991 tagged Instagram tattoo posts.

4. Lego – 11,764 Hashtags

Most Tattooed Brands - Toys

The world-famous toy company started in the 1940s and generations of kids have grown up building with Lego sets, which explains why the instantly-recognizable bricks have been tattooed more than any other toy brand.

Another popular toy brand for tattoos is Hot Wheels, with 178 tags.

5. Nike – 7,333 Hashtags

Most tattooed Brand - Fashion

Nike secured the fifth spot with 7,333 Instagram posts tagged #niketattoo. The brand’s trademark swoosh finds its way into tattoos on its own and as part of larger sneaker designs.

Skate shoe and apparel brand Vans followed closely behind, with 7,255 Instagram posts, but high-end fashion brands are also popular for tattoo inspiration, including 7,019 posts with the tag #diortattoo.

  1. I notice you didn’t list sports like the NFL, MLB. I see tatoos of people’s favorite football team all the time, probably more than i see Disney or christian tatoos like a cross. I find i hard to believe that #’s 5-40 beat out sports tatoos

    1. The list is based on a study conducted by DealA (and they selected the brands), so they may have had a reason for not including sports brands/franchises.

  2. Kari I totally agree and was thinking the exact same thing
I always see sports tattoos more so than Disney or any other of these brands
I was also wondering where Universal and Harry Potter stand as neither are on this list

    1. I think Harry Potter might not be on the list because it is a specific franchise and DealA was looking at media brands (like it’s Disney, but not Marvel or Star Wars). As for Universal, the company may have been one of the 70 brands they researched, but just didn’t land in the top with respect to Instagram tattoo hashtags, which is how they determined the rankings.
