Dollywood visitors honor Dolly Parton with flowers, notes and silence
Dollywood became a place of shared remembrance Wednesday as employees and visitors honored Dolly Parton one day after the park’s “Dreamer-in-Chief” died at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer.

Flowers, handwritten messages and butterfly decorations filled a memorial display inside the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, theme park, as well as a large tribute featuring Parton and the words “I will always love you,” transforming the title of one of her most cherished songs into a farewell.
Our thanks to Zack Koehler, who visited Dollywood on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, and captured the tributes taking shape throughout the day.

Dollywood visitors pause to remember Dolly Parton
Visitors gathered outside The Dolly Parton Experience exhibit for a moment of silence, pausing together near the attraction dedicated to Parton’s life, career and dreams.
Elsewhere in the park, guests continued adding flowers and personal notes to the growing memorial. Some messages were accompanied by butterflies, a symbol closely associated with Parton throughout her life and across Dollywood.

The park’s live entertainment also continued, drawing a full audience Wednesday. The music offered another way to remember an artist whose songs and support of Appalachian performers remain inseparable from the Dollywood experience.

Television crews gathered near The Dolly Parton Experience, many producing live broadcasts. Around the side of the building, Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton spoke about the loss and the park’s future.

“The greatest privilege of my life has been helping Dolly bring her dreams to life at Dollywood,” Naughton said in a statement. “While we grieve her loss, we are honored and committed to carry her light forward.”
Dollywood remained open Wednesday. Rides operated, performers took the stage and families continued making memories in the Smoky Mountains — but amid the familiar sounds of the park, visitors made room for flowers, reflection and one simple promise: we will always love you, Dolly.
