First Look: San Fransokyo Street onboard the Disney Adventure
I had the opportunity to be a guest aboard the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Adventure. While many details of this brand new ship are still being kept under wraps, one area we were able to tell you about is San Fransokyo Street, one of the most well-themed and detailed areas I’ve seen anywhere, let alone on a cruise ship.

San Fransokyo, as you might remember, is the setting for the Disney animated feature “Big Hero 6,” and is part of an alternate universe in which Japanese influences became the predominant cultural force during the reconstruction of San Francisco after the great earthquake of 1906. As a result, familiar landmarks, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the famous Painted Ladies (also known as the houses from Full House), have all been reimagined with distinct Japanese architectural features.
San Fransokyo Street
In the aft section of deck 7, guests onboard the Disney Adventure will find a gateway to San Fransokyo Street through the entrance to the Metro Station.

This area is decorated not only with posters with mash-ups of famous San Fransokyo Landmarks, but also a detailed map of the entire San Fransokyo metro system. While you’re in this area, listen closely to the announcements about incoming trains; you might hear a reference to some Disney history!

The first thing you’ll see after exiting the Metro station, and making your way onto San Fransokyo Street proper, is a local news stand, full of various San Fransokyo knick-knacks, and newspapers that celebrate the day-saving deeds of Big Hero 6.

San Fransokyo Street Scene
Making your way straight ahead, guests will find the entrances to Edge and Vibe, the two clubs designated for tweens and teens, cleverly hidden among the facades of other San Fransokyo businesses.

Be on the lookout, there is a hidden Baymax in every window on the street, and the ramen shop has a few nods to the Imagineers who worked on this particular project.

At the end of the street, guests come to a fork in the road; If they keep going straight, they’ll find a bus stop for the San Fransokyo Metro line, as well as a full-size recreation of one of the San Francisco trolleys, complete with a hidden reference to San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure.

Baymax Cinemas
Continuing down this pathway will bring guests to both the Duffy and Friends and the National Geographic stores (although those don’t have any Big Hero 6 or San Fransokyo theming) and the Baymax Cinemas, the ship’s onboard movie complex.

Here, four screens cycle through new-release features from Disney and Pixar. While we visited, one of the four theaters was always playing Big Hero 6, but we aren’t sure if that will always be the case.
The Alley Cat Cafe, the snack bar for the Baymax Cinemas, serves tea cocktails and snacks.

Big Hero Arcade
If guests take the left at the fork in the road, they’ll encounter the Big Hero Arcade. Here, every member of the team has their own video game and training experience, ranging from low to high intensity and difficulty.

All the video games are included and can be accessed by tapping your Key to the World card (the Hiro Training Zone may require advance reservations on the Disney Cruise Line app, but that is dependent on how many guests are on your sailing). While exploring the individual workstations for each member of the team, be on the lookout for an homage to Marvel Comics icon, Stan Lee.
Meet Baymax on San Fransokyo Street
Last, but certainly not least, there is a dedicated meet-and-greet area for Baymax, which may require an advance reservation depending on demand.

Overall, San Fransokyo is another gem for the Disney Cruise Line, on par with the immersive spaces that exist on other ships, such as the Haunted Mansion Parlor on Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny or the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on Disney Wish.
Stay tuned for more from the Disney Adventure, including a list of what to not miss when you sail on her.
