Flying Fox family coaster coming to Kentucky Kingdom in 2026
Flying Fox, a new roller coaster built by Vekoma, will open at Kentucky Kingdom in 2026.
Kentucky Kingdom Theme and Water Park in Louisville, Ken.— part of Herschend’s portfolio—is expanding its family-friendly offerings with the debut of Flying Fox, set to open in 2026.
The park’s sixth roller coaster—and first new coaster since 2019—Flying Fox will feature “a blend of approachable thrills, immersive theming and story-driven design inspired by Kentucky’s agricultural heritage,” (including a nostalgic red barn-inspired queue) as riders join local legend and crop-dusting pilot, Jeb Fox, on a high-flying adventure over Kentucky’s farmland setting.
“The addition of Flying Fox is a significant milestone in our multi-year growth strategy,” said Kentucky Kingdom General Manager Sarah Worrell. “We’ve worked closely with Vekoma to design a coaster that meets the highest standards for safety and fun while bringing an original story to life that resonates with our region.”
With a height requirement of only 38 inches, the custom Vekoma suspended family coaster will take guests on a 63-second ride along a 1,380-foot track at speeds of up to 37 miles per hour. The Flying Fox ride vehicle is a train with ten coaches, for a total of 20 passengers per train.
Following the $8 million debut of Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom in 2024 and the opening of the new $11 million family-themed Discovery Meadow land in 2025, the $14 million Flying Fox is the culmination of the park’s multi-year $33 million investment.
“With the debut of Discovery Meadow in 2025, we set a new standard for immersive, family-friendly experiences, and Flying Fox builds on that momentum,” Worrell said. “This new coaster represents not only our continued investment in the park, but also our commitment to transforming Kentucky Kingdom into a place where families can return year after year and always find something new to discover.”
