Photo tour inside Disney’s new Fort Wilderness cabins, opening July 1
Over 350 completely new cabins will open at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort this summer. Take a look inside at the furnishings and amenities.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
The accommodations — now on the roster of eligible Disney Vacation Club properties — will open July 1, 2024 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Each cabin can sleep up to six guests.

The debut of the new cabins aren’t simply a makeover of existing accommodations. All 365 cabins across Fort Wilderness will be replaced with new edifices. Disney is currently constructing the new cabins in an Orlando-area warehouse in partnership with local Florida businesses JCQ Services and Friedrich Watkins Company.
Disney invited us for a visit to the warehouse to tour a new Fort Wilderness cabin with Suzanne Szak, senior interior designer at Walt Disney Imagineering, and Cesar Avila, senior manager of marketing and sales strategy at Disney Vacation Club.
Bedroom in New Fort Wilderness Cabin
Each bedroom will contain a queen bed, a twin-over-twin bunk bed, a 55-inch TV, and a closet.

Living Room & Kitchen
The living room area will feature a sofa, a 65-inch TV, and a queen-size bed that folds out from the wall.

The adjacent kitchen area will come equipped with a refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and seating area.

Bathroom
Each cabin will have one full bathroom with a walk-in shower, along with sink, mirror, and toilet. An extra vanity area with another sink and mirror will be located outside of the bathroom.

Artwork and Disney Details
“Throughout the space, you’ll see lots of touches of artwork that feature the traditions of the Fort,” Szak pointed out, “like canoeing, camping, fishing, archery…”

Mickey, Pluto, Chip, Dale, and Donald are featured in various pieces of artwork throughout the cabin.
Szak shared that the trailer in one of the art pieces is directly from the 1938 short film “Mickey’s Trailer” (which you can watch on Disney+).
Szak also noted Dale’s calendar is dated as a nod to the opening day of Fort Wilderness: Nov. 19, 1971. Coincidentally, that’s one day after Mickey’s birthday. It’s nice that the mouse is taking a camping trip for his birthday weekend.

One framed collage features “hand-written” letters from Mickey to Goofy and from Chip and Dale to Clarice. Note how the handwriting style matches how the characters sign their autographs in the parks. The frame also contains a flyer for the Junior Woodchucks, the scout troupe to which Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby belong (and coming soon to Disney Davy Crockett Ranch at Disneyland Paris).

In the bedroom closet of the cabin model we toured, artwork depicts Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers outfits, but this will not be reflected in the finished cabins at the resort.

Exterior of New Fort Wilderness Cabins
Each cabin’s exterior will sport one of several designs; the interiors of every cabin are all the same, regardless of exterior style.
Outside, all cabins will have a private deck with a charcoal grill, along with solar-reflective roofs and an electric vehicle charging station.

Fort Wilderness Amenities
Beyond the cabins, the onsite amenities at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground remain unchanged and extensive: water transportation to Magic Kingdom Park, bus transportation to other Disney World destinations, lakeside viewing of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant, pools, a nightly campfire sing-along with Chip and Dale, archery, pony rides, wagon rides, fishing, canoe rentals, golf cart rentals, kayak rentals, bike rentals, basketball courts, volleyball courts, jogging trails, playgrounds, two arcades, and a Segway tour.
Fort Wilderness is also home to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Disney World’s only dinner show.

What was wrong with the old cabins? They are more rustic, which fits in with living in the woods. The best change was the pull down bed over the couch, which could have been integrated into the old theme.
