'Fright Night' cast reunites to record ‘Table Read Podcast’

“Fright Night” Brought Back to Life

On a Saturday this past April, original cast members from the beloved Tom Holland horror movie “Fright Night” reunited in North Hollywood, Calif. to record an episode of “Table Read Podcast.” In addition, special guests Mark Hamill and Rosario Dawson took a seat behind the microphone to take part in the reading.

“Fright Night” is a 1985 horror movie about a teenage boy convinced his new next-door neighbor is a vampire. Having a hard time convincing anyone else of this fact, he turns to a washed-up television vampire killer to help.

This recording was a bit of a new venture for “Table Read Podcast” as the show typically gathers all-star talents to read un-produced film and television scripts. The writers, actors, sound designer, and editors create an immersive experience that feels like you’re listening to a movie. But when the opportunity to bring “Fright Night” back to life arose, they couldn’t help but take part. The project is a dream come true for the film’s writer/director Tom Holland.

The Room Where It Happened

The recording studio was set up with a circle of microphones all facing inward, recording the story in real time. It was very much like witnessing a radio play of yesteryear. Performers behind the mics included original cast members Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Stephen Geoffreys, Jonathan Stark, and more.

Mark Hamill performed the role of television personality Peter Vincent, replacing the late Roddy McDowall, and Rosario Dawson read several roles that needed filling. Both stars are big fans of the film and seemed absolutely delighted to be invited to take part.

As the cast performed iconic lines like “Welcome to Fright Night! For real” and the room filled with moans and screams from the murderous story, everyone in attendance had a big grin on their face. There was applause, cheers, laughter, and joy all around.
