Future Epic Universe attraction ‘already in the works,’ says Universal exec
Universal Orlando has plans for new attractions at all of its theme parks in the future — including Epic Universe.
Unannounced attractions are in motion behind the scenes for Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Universal Epic Universe.
“There are already so many things in the works now,” said Karen Irwin, president and chief operating officer of Universal Orlando Resort, in a video posted to Universal’s YouTube channel on March 3, 2025. “We have a slate of new attractions that we’re already developing for every one of our parks. We’re already planning for the next thing at Epic.”
Universal Orlando also considers its water park, Universal Volcano Bay, as a theme park.
Universal has not publicly announced future plans for attractions at any Florida parks beyond the grand opening of Epic Universe. The new theme park debuts May 22 with five worlds: Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Celestial Park.
Elsewhere in the video, Irwin said, “Even though Epic feels a little bit like a finale, it really isn’t. There is so much more to do and so many more stories to tell.”
The most recent permanent additions at Universal Studios Florida include “Universal Mega Movie Parade,” the “CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular” fireworks/drones show, and the kid-friendly DreamWorks Land, all of which debuted in summer 2024. Next door at Islands of Adventure, the most recently opened attraction is 2021’s Jurassic World VelociCoaster.
Last year, “Wicked” star Ariana Grande expressed interest in an Epic Universe attraction based on the hit film, in which she starred as Glinda. Last month, Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, told the New York Times that “Wicked” is “a theme park waiting to happen.”
