The Great Pumpkin turns 60: Where Snoopy’s Halloween season is showing up in 2026

Linus has been waiting in the pumpkin patch for six decades. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026. The animated Peanuts special premiered on CBS on Oct. 27, 1966, introducing generations of viewers to Charlie Brown’s unfortunate bag of rocks, Snoopy’s World War I Flying Ace adventure and Linus’ unwavering belief in the Great Pumpkin.

The milestone is being recognized with limited-edition merchandise, home décor and a collectible soundtrack release. Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts gang can also be found at family Halloween events across several theme parks.

Starbucks launches Peanuts Great Pumpkin collection

Starbucks launched a 10-piece Peanuts merchandise collection at participating coffeehouses worldwide on Sept. 15. The collection draws from “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and arrives during the special’s 60th-anniversary year.

The in-store collection includes:

  • Snoopy glass cold cup with Woodstock straw topper: $39.95
  • Lucy and Snoopy stainless steel cold cup: $32.95
  • Great Pumpkin stainless steel tumbler: $32.95
  • Peanuts cold cup with Snoopy straw topper: $27.95
  • Collectible ceramic mug in a gift box: $29.95
  • Stainless steel tumbler with Snoopy and Woodstock charm: $32.95
  • Barista Snoopy plush holding a Pumpkin Spice Latte: $34.95

Purchases of the 20-ounce Snoopy glass cold cup are limited to two per customer. Merchandise is available while supplies last, and selection may vary by location.

Starbucks Rewards members in the United States can also shop for online exclusives and some products are reserved for members with Starbucks Reserve status.

The Starbucks app also lists two limited-time secret-menu drinks. The Charlie Brown Mocha Frappuccino combines pumpkin spice and mocha flavors with pumpkin cream cold foam, while the Snoopy Cookie Frappuccino blends vanilla bean and white mocha with pumpkin cream cold foam and cookie crumbles.

Hallmark celebrates 60 years in the pumpkin patch

Hallmark’s anniversary collection recreates several familiar moments from the television special through ornaments, light-up decorations and other seasonal pieces.

The $35.99 Spooked Trick-or-Treaters Keepsake Ornament places Charlie Brown and his costumed friends among illuminated jack-o’-lanterns. Pressing its button activates the lights and sound effects inspired by the special’s opening sequence.

A $74.99 apple-bobbing figurine captures the Halloween party scene in which Snoopy rises from the water as Lucy attempts to retrieve an apple. The battery-operated decoration plays a spooky jazz arrangement when activated.

Other Hallmark Great Pumpkin anniversary products include:

  • A $44.99 light-up pillow depicting Linus and Sally in the pumpkin patch. Its illuminated moon reveals Snoopy as the Flying Ace.
  • A $34.99 felt wall decoration featuring Linus and his “Welcome Great Pumpkin” sign beneath twinkling stars.
  • A $54.99 oversized, Sherpa-lined throw blanket covered with scenes from the special.
  • A 1,000-piece puzzle featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts gang.
  • A $14.99 trick-or-treating Lucy zip-along plush.

The Hallmark collection is available online and at participating Hallmark Gold Crown stores while supplies last.

Charles M. Schulz Museum hosts 60th-anniversary celebration

The Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 1-5 p.m. The event is included with museum admission and free for members.

The program includes a big-screen presentation of the animated special, crafts, live music and costume and mustache contests.

At 2 p.m., Jason and Sean Mendelson of Lee Mendelson Film Productions will share production stories and discuss Vince Guaraldi’s first spooky Peanuts score. The Sixth Station Piano Trio performs at 3:30 p.m.

Celebrate with the Peanuts gang at theme parks

Several Six Flags parks with Peanuts-themed attractions are presenting family Halloween events this fall. Although the parks have not described every offering as formal 60th-anniversary programming, the events provide opportunities to see Snoopy, Charlie Brown and their friends during the Great Pumpkin’s anniversary season. Plus, multiple Six Flags parks are selling The Peanuts Lug collection.

Carowinds

Charlotte, North Carolina (the park straddles North Carolina-South Carolina state line)

Carowinds presents its family-friendly Tricks and Treats event on Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 12-Nov. 1. The daytime celebration includes a trick-or-treat trail, pumpkin patch, crafts and seasonal entertainment before SCarowinds begins at night.

Camp Snoopy hosts a children’s costume contest and the Skelebration Dance Party. Guests can also find scheduled Peanuts character meet-and-greets and ride Snoopy’s Racing Railway, although Carowinds has not announced programming specifically connected to the special’s 60th anniversary.

Kings Island

Mason, Ohio

Kings Island presents its family-friendly Tricks and Treats event on select days from Sept. 27-Nov. 1. The daytime event includes seasonal activities, treats and Peanuts entertainment before the park’s nighttime scares begin.

“The Monsters Are Coming, Charlie Brown” brings Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the gang together for a Halloween show. Guests can also ride The Great Pumpkin Coaster, a junior steel coaster introduced in 1992 as a first-coaster experience for children.

Dorney Park

Allentown, Pennsylvania

Dorney Park’s Tricks and Treats takes place on weekends from Sept. 19-Nov. 1. The family event offers daytime entertainment, activities and Peanuts characters before Halloween Haunt begins in the evening.

“The Monsters Are Coming, Charlie Brown” is also part of Dorney Park’s seasonal entertainment. The show follows the Peanuts gang on a playful Halloween adventure without the scares found during the park’s nighttime event.

Cedar Point

Sandusky, Ohio

Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends entertainment includes “Snoopy’s Tricks and Treats Adventure.” The show begins on Halloween night as the Peanuts gang prepares for ghosts, ghouls and other things that go bump in the night.

Entertainment dates and showtimes vary throughout HalloWeekends, so guests should check Cedar Point’s daily schedule before visiting.

Knott’s Berry Farm

Buena Park, California

Knott’s Spooky Farm runs Thursdays through Sundays from Sept. 24-Oct. 31, plus Columbus Day. The daytime event includes trick-or-treating in Ghost Town, pumpkin and cookie decorating, seasonal character appearances and family entertainment.

“Snoopy’s Spooktacular Costume Party” invites children and adults to show off their Halloween costumes alongside the Peanuts characters. “Spooktivities!” includes games, music, stories and appearances by Charlie Brown, Snoopy and their friends.

California’s Great America

Santa Clara, California

California’s Great America has not announced a separate Great Pumpkin anniversary event, but guests can take a seasonal spin on The Pumpkin Patch in Planet Snoopy. The children’s ride sends pumpkin-shaped vehicles in circles beneath an oversized Snoopy figure.

Riders be at least 44 inches tall or 36 inches tall when accompanied by a supervising companion. California’s Great America has extended its 2026 operating calendar through Nov. 1 on select dates.

Vince Guaraldi’s music is inseparable from the special, from “Linus and Lucy” to “The Great Pumpkin Waltz.” A limited-edition version of the soundtrack turns the record itself into a seasonal display piece.

Craft Recordings is offering “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on a pumpkin-shaped vinyl record with a candy-corn color pattern. The limited release is available to preorder for $30.

The official Peanuts Store has introduced a “60 Years of ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’” collection. Products include anniversary apparel and accessories featuring Linus, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and other images from the special.

A 60th-anniversary T-shirt is priced at $31.95. Additional Halloween merchandise includes sweatshirts, drinkware, home décor and character accessories.

Where to watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is available to Apple TV subscribers throughout the year. The 25-minute special follows Charlie Brown and his friends as they go trick-or-treating and attend a Halloween party, while Linus waits in the pumpkin patch with Sally.

Apple has offered limited free viewing windows for non-subscribers during previous Halloween seasons, but a free 2026 window has not been announced as of Sept. 15. Viewers without a subscription should watch for an announcement closer to October.

Sixty years after the special first aired, Linus is still waiting, Charlie Brown is still finding rocks in his candy bag and families have more than a few ways to join them in the pumpkin patch.
