Universal Orlando Resort has finally revealed the Hagrid animatronic that will be a part of their newest Wizarding World attraction, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
The Hagrid animatronic reveal was first teased on May 3, thanks to a tweet from Universal Orlando’s account:
Universal Creative worked directly with actor Robbie Coltrane, who portrays Hagrid in the “Harry Potter” films, in order to study his body movements and facial expressions to create 24 different body movements and actions for this animatronic figure.
The figure’s face is hand-sculpted, and was created using digital scans of Coltrane’s teeth and features exact placement of individual hair strands. The animatronic’s height is exact to Hagrid’s height in the films – 7 feet, 6 inches tall! His costume was also designed by the same team that created his on-screen attire for the films.
“Hagrid is such an iconic character and an integral part of the Harry Potter franchise, so we were excited to develop a truly innovative and authentic animated figure to bring him to life for this experience,” said Thierry Coup, senior vice president of Universal Creative. “We worked tirelessly to make sure Hagrid’s full essence was captured with the utmost attention to detail for our guests to feel completely immersed in this all-new adventure.”
You can see the first look at Hagrid himself in the video below:
