To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland park, a new exhibit has opened at the Disney Gallery: “Happy Haunts Materialize.”
This new exhibit shares a behind-the-scenes look at the attraction’s concept state.
Displays include very early sketches and sculptures of the ride’s original concept and original design ideas for the walk-through attraction that the Haunted Mansion was once going to be.
In the gallery, guests will see some ideas that were never used, but inspired the Mansion that everyone knows and loves today. Among some of these are portraits originally designed for the Portrait Hallway in the attraction, featuring Dracula and Daphne from the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo.
In the center of the exhibit, figures that were created as models for the actual ghosts in the attraction today are on display.
If you’re looking for another way to celebrate the most macabre mansion, check out “The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving,” a special ticketed event happening this August. You can learn more about it here.
