Kings Island opens 2026 season with new Phantom Theater dark ride and summer events
The curtain is rising on a new season at Kings Island, and 2026 brings a mix of nostalgia, new experiences, and seasonal entertainment for guests returning to the Ohio park.

Opening April 18, the park will debut a brand-new family dark ride, bring back fan-favorite festivals, and celebrate a historic milestone attraction—all alongside more than 65 rides and experiences.
Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare leads 2026 additions
The headline addition this year is Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare, a new interactive dark ride inspired by the park’s original Phantom Theater attraction (1992–2002).
Guests enter a haunted theater on a stormy night, where a lightning strike unleashes “ghost notes”—mischievous musical spirits—throughout the building. Riders board “enchanted opera boxes” and use interactive flashlights to capture the spirits and return them to the organ before the show can begin.

New additions include Arpeggio, a feline companion to Maestro, along with hidden Easter eggs throughout the attraction.
Season Passholders will get early access during a preview event on April 17.

Classic attractions and park updates
Beyond new experiences, 2026 highlights a major milestone for one of the park’s most historic rides.
Grand Carousel turns 100
Originally built in 1926 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, the Grand Carousel celebrates its centennial this year. The ride features:
- 48 hand-carved horses
- A historic Wurlitzer band organ
- Roots tracing back to Cincinnati’s Coney Island before moving to Kings Island in 1972
Additional updates include a refreshed KI Essentials retail store near the park entrance.
Soak City returns for summer 2026
The park’s water park, Soak City, reopens May 23 with returning attractions like:
- RiverRacers, a dual racing water coaster
- Splash River Junction, a kid-focused slide area
By the way, Soak City’s water attractions were built by WhiteWater West Industries, which will build Mattel’s new indoor water parks!
