5 things to do at Hersheypark during America 250 this summer

As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary, Hersheypark is turning summer 2026 into a season-long celebration. The park is layering entertainment, food, and experiences across its full summer calendar, giving families multiple reasons to plan a visit. And it lands on our list of the best summer vacation spots to visit this year.

Watch fireworks during major summer holidays

One of the most visible elements of the celebration is a series of fireworks displays tied to peak travel periods. Daily summer operations begin May 21, with the first fireworks show launching Memorial Day weekend on May 23.

Additional scheduled dates include:

  • July 3
  • July 4
  • August 8

These nights are designed to anchor long weekend visits, giving guests a built-in finale to their day in the park.

See the new “Sweet Land of Liberty” live show

The new ‘Sweet Land of Liberty: A Celebration of the American Songbook’ show sounds wonderful. Debuting May 29 and running through Labor Day, this all-new production brings together music that has shaped American culture, from rock and pop to country and soul.

Performed inside the air-conditioned Chevrolet Music Box Theatre, the show adds both a thematic centerpiece to the America 250 celebration and a practical midday break from summer heat.

Experience patriotic overlays throughout the park

The America 250 theme extends beyond scheduled entertainment into the overall park atmosphere.

Things to look out for:

  • Red, white, and blue décor throughout the park
  • Select rides enhanced with themed lighting and effects
  • Hershey Characters dressed in patriotic costumes

Even classic rides like Twin Turnpike, with its vintage car experience, fit naturally into the America 250 theme, reinforcing the park’s nostalgic, road trip–ready atmosphere. The result is a park-wide transformation that makes the celebration feel integrated into the experience.

The celebration also coincides with a milestone for one of the park’s most iconic rides, as the Comet roller coaster marks its 80th anniversary. This classic coaster adds more nostalgia to a summer already rooted in Americana.

Try limited-time patriotic food and drinks

Seasonal treats play a major role in the summer lineup, with patriotic twists on signature Hersheypark favorites.

Highlights include:

  • Star-Spangled King Size Shake (available in July)
  • Apple pie and red, white and blue donuts
  • Specialty fudge and themed desserts
  • Firecracker drinks and flights

Cool off at the expanded Boardwalk water park

In addition to themed entertainment, Hersheypark is enhancing its water park offerings just in time for peak summer travel.

New for 2026:

  • Two new play areas at Bayside Pier with 45 interactive water features
  • Shade structures and seating for families
  • Improved flow between water attractions

Open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Boardwalk water park remains included with admission, reinforcing Hersheypark as a full-day destination during the hottest months of the year.

Hersheypark’s approach to America 250 goes beyond a single celebration, turning the milestone into a season-long draw. With layered entertainment, limited-time offerings, and major summer dates to plan around, it stands out as one of the more fully realized theme park tributes to the anniversary in 2026.
