Legoland Shanghai Resort opens summer 2025
During the China International Import Expo (CIIE), Merlin Entertainment announced that Legoland Shanghai Resort – the 11th Legoland Park and the first in China – will open in the summer of 2025.
The first international IP-based family entertainment theme park in China’s Yangtze River Delta region will feature a Lego-themed hotel and eight themed lands, with over 75 interactive rides, shows, and attractions geared towards families with kids from 2 to 12. In addition, the park will include several unique attractions inspired by Chinese culture and Jiangnan Watertown of the Yangtze River Delta region, including the world’s first “Monkie Kid” themed zone and Legoland Creative World
“China represents a key pillar of the Merlin Entertainments’ global growth strategy, and Legoland Shanghai Resort marks a crucial advancement in our strategic expansion plans for Chinese market,” said Legoland Resorts Chief Operating Officer John Jakobsen. “We eagerly anticipate that upon its opening next year, Legoland Shanghai Resort will emerge as a new cultural tourism landmark in the Yangtze River Delta region.”
Components of the park’s rides are currently being installed, including the mechanical track and towers for The Dragon Coaster, the mechanical track equipment for the landmark ride, The Big Lego Coaster, and the world’s first Monkie Kid Flower Fruit Mountain Adventure, the first Lego Brand created IP inspired by a traditional Chinese story. Landscaping and paving projects are also underway, and ride testing is expected to begin by the end of 2024.
“We’re striving to build the ultimate Lego theme park and hotel destination where LEGO possibilities come to life on an epic scale, sparking a lifetime of play, creativity, and imagination at its opening in 2025,” said Legoland Developments Senior Divisional Director John Ussher.
Legoland Shanghai Resort Membership Program
Legoland Shanghai Resort has officially launched a membership program. Guests who register will not only have the exclusive opportunity to be the first to experience the resort when it opens next year but will also receive news about the park’s construction progress, ticket information, and limited products, as well as have the opportunity to build a customized digital avatar Minifigure character.
Legoland Shanghai Resort members will also unlock opportunities to enjoy future benefits from Legoland and Lego.
