America Chavez, Cassie Lang, and Riri Williams return in new footage filmed with Xochitl Gomez, Kathryn Newton, and Dominique Thorne for a Marvel restaurant onboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship.
Three Marvel heroes return
In new footage filmed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line, Xochitl Gomez, Kathryn Newton, and Dominique Thorne reprised their Marvel super hero roles as America Chavez, Cassie Lang, and Riri Williams, respectively.
The actors’ appearance is presented during the “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” dining experience at the Worlds of Marvel restaurant onboard the new cruise ship. The vessel casts off for its maiden voyage Dec. 21, 2024, but our publishers got a sneak peek on Nov. 20.
In the clip, the three heroes nonchalantly sit together after a meal (with lots of Coca-Cola products). America suggests a round of shuffleboard; Cassie and Riri don’t seem interested. The moment recalls the shawarma scene at the end of 2012’s “The Avengers,” but with young characters.
This marks only the second Marvel appearance for all three actors. Gomez debuted as Chavez in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Thorne first played Williams in 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and Newton stepped into the role of Lang in 2023’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” (though a younger version of the character appears in previous “Ant-Man” films).
Thorne is set to star as Williams in “Iron Heart,” a new series premiering on Disney+ on June 25, 2025.
“Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” takes place during passengers’ second visit to Worlds of Marvel during their week-long cruise. On their first visit to the restaurant, guests experience “Avengers: Quantum Encounter,” which debuted on the Disney Wish in 2022 and features returning Marvel cast members Paul Rudd (Scott Lang / Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne / The Wasp), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Captain America), Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel), and Brie Larson (Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel). “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” awaits guests sailing on the Disney Treasure as they dine at the Worlds of Marvel restaurant.
“Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” will begin as diners partake in a celebration honoring the many super heroes who keep the world safe. The story will unfold onscreen when Groot takes over the proceedings and brings the party to the next level like only he can. Throughout the evening, guests will eat to the beat of an “awesome mix” of hit songs from decades past and have the chance to test their knowledge of the Marvel universe with activities for the whole family.
