‘Monsters, Inc.’ roller coaster construction update | Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Construction for the “Monsters, Inc.” doors-themed roller coaster and the surrounding Monstropolis land is underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Fla., replacing Muppet*Vision 3D and nearby areas.

Walt Disney World wasted no time breaking ground on Monstropolis, the new “Monsters, Inc.” land replacing the former Muppets Courtyard, as seen in aerial photography by bioreconstruct.
If you are new to this project, it might help you to know that the Monstropolis area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is replacing Muppets Courtyard, which is right near Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and a short walk from Toy Story Land.
Monstropolis will be home to Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster. The ride will be themed to the memorable scene in “Monsters, Inc.” and will take guests on a thrilling adventure through the Door Vault.

Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one of several huge projects under construction throughout Walt Disney World. Make sure to check out our ongoing construction coverage of Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom as well as Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Late March 2026: Electrical conduit and rebar added to foundation
In the time since our last update on Monstropolis, the site for the Door Coaster has seen a lot of changes. Concrete has been poured once more, rebar has been placed, and electrical conduit has been threaded.
Let’s take a closer look…

Here’s what appears to be the beginning phases of coaster footers inside the attraction’s gravity building.

Conduit is being threaded through rebar in the bottom right before another layer of concrete is poured on top of it. In other words, workers are running electrical or utility piping through the steel framework (rebar) before sealing it in place with another layer of concrete.

The city of Monstropolis is seeing a lot of cosmetic work on the buildings as they continue to be stripped of their theming. Some of the facades, including that of the speculated “The Glob” theatre, have been surrounded by scaffolding.
Rumor note: “The Glob” theatre is currently just a rumor, and it would be a play on The Globe Theatre of Shakespearean fame.

Excavation is occurring near the entrance to the land. Construction crews are also demolishing the brick walls that separated The Muppets courtyard from planters and the Ice Cold Hydraulics food stand.

In addition to excavation, pipes are being staged in the middle of Monstropolis, setting up for utility installation beneath the surface. In other words, the land is being prepped from the ground up, as nearby facades are stripped of their theming and the former PizzeRizzo entrance is now covered in scaffolding.

Previous updates below
Let’s recap some of the previous updates so you can see the progress.
Mid-February 2026: Demolition atop former Muppets Theatre
The floor and foundation of the door coaster’s gravity building continues to be built upon, while the incoming city of Monstropolis slowly eats away at the theming from Muppets Courtyard.

The brickwork on the exterior of what used to be Muppet*Vision 3D is being stripped off the building. This will be “The Glob” theatre for a future show in Monstropolis. The building will still sport a brick exterior after its retheme, so it’s possible we will see some fresh brickwork soon.

Demolition is taking place at the top of the show building. Concept art for the land indicates that the top of The Glob theatre will sport Monstropolis city building facade work, so this is most likely in preparation for that.

The PizzeRizzo façade theming remains, but the outdoor seating area is currently being torn up. A good amount of the remaining theming in the area remains.

Over by the door coaster, not much has changed since our last update (chronicled in depth below), but plenty is on the way.

The orange sand, with very interesting square shapes, is being covered in a yellow moisture barrier. This will soon be covered in concrete.

Electrical conduit work from last update is being buried in the sand.

Yet to be buried is some new conduit work that has popped up near the section that has just been buried.

Here’s an overview of what the Monstropolis footprint is shaping up to look like!

Late January 2026: Muppets Courtyard becomes pictures in our head
Slowly but surely, any trace of Muppets theming has been removed from the former Muppets Courtyard. Seeing the PizzeRizzo billboard removed is one of the most heart-wrenching moments in theme park news this year so far. Some remnants of the PizzeRizzo exterior remain.

Theming has also been removed from clocktower of Muppet*Vision 3D, the future location of “The Glob” theatre.

While we’re not sure what these restrooms will be themed to, Gonzo’s Royal Flush (my #1 favorite Disney World restroom) continues to see theming removal on its exterior.

The pedestrian portions of the land haven’t seen that many changes since our last update. However, it looks like some construction materials are being set aside for additions in the next few months

As for the doors coaster, the floor of the Monsters, Inc. door vault has been covered in sand and seen a various amount of additions. A good amount of the land is in different stages of progress, but it’s surely moving right along. (Too soon for a Muppets reference?)

Within the portion of the plot that’s covered in sand, concrete castings have popped up, as well and conduit work for utilities.

This portion of the plot has just recently been cast in concrete, just next to some of the framework that is getting ready for future casting. We can assume the patch of dirt below will see concrete poured next, as it appears that drilling is done there.

December 2025: Door factory floor
As the year approaches an end, let’s take one more look at the current status of the “Monsters Inc.” door coaster’s gravity building. The plot of land is seeing a lot of foundation work before it hopefully goes vertical in the next few months. Note: There have been no significant changes in the Monstropolis cityscape portion of this land since our last update (see previous months’ photos below), so this update will focus on the door coaster.

An auger can be seen drilling holes at the site, preparing it for the concrete which will be later be poured in them.

A floor of concrete is then poured over the pilings. The ones found in the November update have reached this next phase, seen in the image below.

The floor for the door factory inside of Monsters Inc. is coming along swiftly! You’ll be soaring over this on Walt Disney World’s first suspended roller coaster before you know it!

November 2025: Muppets near extinction
The Muppet*Vision 3D sign has been completely removed. While the building remains, the exterior is about to undergo a transformation to re-theme the building to “The Glob Theatre,” where a “Monsters, Inc.”-themed show will move in. Show details are still unknown, but the only thing that could possibly live up to Muppet*Vision is a performance of “Put That Thing Back Where it Came From or So Help Me”!

Not much has changed at the site of the door coaster’s gravity building, but it does look significantly cleaner than it was a few months ago.

Excavation has progressed in this portion of the plot, where it seems foundation work is ramping up.

In the city of Monstropolis, dirt has been smoothed over, with the hole from the last update covered up. It’s unclear on if this was for something that has since been cut, as that portion of the city in front of the future Harry Hausen’s restaurant is just trees in the land’s concept art.

A new fountain that dares to stand where Missy Piggy once stood will be installed in this now sectioned-off area in front of the Glob Theatre. Note that the fountain will be a circular shape like its predecessor, so the odd shape of the taped off outline is possibly for plumbing work.

September 2025 construction: Land-clearing, crane onsite
The site of the former Stage 1 Company Store is fully cleared of debris as the area is prepped for future installations.

The facade for PizzeRizzo is still intact, so maybe it’s not too late for Disney to reverse course! Wishful thinking aside, it appears that the city of Monstropolis is ready to move into Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

More site prep can be found in front of the former Muppet*Vision 3D. The marquee has been wrapped, hopefully to protect it from debris while construction is happening.

Infrastructure prep is happening over at the site of the future “Monsters, Inc.” roller coaster before the attraction’s gravity building can go vertical. This space was previously part of the Hollywood Studios cast member parking lot.

August 2025 construction: Miss Piggy fountain gone, Muppets gift shop demolished
Warning: If you are a Muppets fan, the following images are very graphic and highly disturbing. The Miss Piggy Fountain is gone.

The Muppet statues have been removed from the fountain, and the surrounding concrete is in the process of being broken up.
Speaking of broken up, the former Stage 1 Company Store has been completely leveled. Guests were never given the chance to say goodbye, as it has been closed for years (except for special occasions, such as specially ticketed after hours events like Jollywood Nights).

In the background of the previous pictures, you might’ve noticed that the former homes of PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose Ristorante Italiano have giant pieces of plywood seemingly boarding up the windows and entrances.

It’s sad to see the land in its current state, but knowing we’re getting an exciting new land themed to one of Pixar’s most heartwarming films helps the loss sting a little less.

The existence of a “doors coaster had been heavily rumored within the fan community for years before Disney officially announced the project in 2024. From what Disney has shared so far, it’s looking to be like everything we dreamed of.

Extending past the current footprint that Monstropolis will fill, site preparations for the doors coaster’s show building has begun. Taking up a good portion of what used to be cast member parking, the building that will resemble Monsters Inc. headquarters when finished is sure to be massive.

While there’s not much to see here just yet, you might be wondering, “How are we going to get to this ride?” What used to be stroller and ECV parking during busy times of year, as well as meet & greets in the days before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge existed, will soon be a pathway toward the building where the land’s E-Ticket attraction will be housed.
