New ‘Pacific Rim’ ride headed for Indonesia’s Trans Studio theme park
As the new Trans Studio Cibubur theme park in Indonesia gears up for its grand opening, new details have been revealed on its cornerstone attraction – “Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike.”
This groundbreaking dark ride is based on the movie franchise of the same name from Legendary Pictures.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Trans Studio on the world’s first ‘Pacific Rim’ dark ride,” said Drew Von Bergen, manager of franchise management at Legendary Entertainment. “Their commitment to both creative ambition and quality of execution has made for an experience that we believe will thrill and delight parkgoers.”
The ride takes place in four distinct parts and has a nearly 20-minute runtime. Guests will come face-to-face with three new kaijus that will make their debut in the ride – and each one has unique powers and abilities.
The ride begins at the launch ceremony for the Pan Pacific Defense Corp’s (PPDC) first Mark VII Jaeger, the Storm Garuda. Guests will pilot the most advanced mobile weapon in the PPDC’s fleet, thanks to the combination of 3D film sequences, practical effects, and state-of-the-art ride vehicle technology.
There is also a surprise halfway through the ride that “is unprecedented in the history of theme parks,” according to the official press release.
“Trans Studio challenged us to create a dark ride experience unlike any other,” said Eric Carnagey, the project’s executive producer at Legacy Entertainment. “The result is one of the most unique theme park experiences in the industry today. No matter what park guests have seen before, they’ll be shocked by what we have in store for them at Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike.”
Originally debuted in 2013, the “Pacific Rim” franchise follows the war between a monstrous global threat and humanity, where the bravest among us pilot giant mechs to defend our way of life. The series has grossed over $700 million at the global box office and has led to many comic book series and an anime series that’s coming to Netflix in 2020.
Trans Studio’s other attractions include:
- Alien Taxi – an indoor space-themed spinning coaster based on a concept also created by Legacy
- Jurassic Island – a boat ride from Interlink and Simworx featuring an “immersive media tunnel”
- Boomerang Hyper Coaster – a Vekoma Boomerang, formerly at Knott’s Berry Farm, which now sits on the mall’s rooftop
