Wizards, witches and other magical creatures were in abundance last weekend at Universal Orlando, specifically the Royal Pacific Resort, at Infinitus 2010, a Harry Potter conference.
The four-day event included many discussions about the books and movies and of course, a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Most attendees came from out of town, so this was their first visit to the new World. A special after hours event was held in the Wizarding World called “A Night of a Thousand Wizards”. Actually, quite a few more were able to attend.
In addition to the discussions, a vendor room was open all four days featuring, of course, Potter related clothes and merchandise; Potter art and memorabilia were on display; a Night of Frivolity Ball was held; Quidditch was played; and comedy and wizard rock was performed.
Harry Potter film actors Christian Coulson and Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) were on hand to meet fans. Surprisingly, the cast from the Internet sensation, “A Very Potter Musical” drew the largest crowds. They showed a sneak peek of their new, “A Very Potter Sequel” days before it premiered on the Internet.
Infinitus was presented by HP Education Fandom (HPEF). They’re returning to Universal with another conference, Ascendio, in 2012. Next year, Harry Potter fan site, The-Leaky-Cauldron.org, will present Leakycon from July 13 to 17, also at the Royal Pacific. The event will coincide with the release of the last Harry Potter film. Registration is now open at leakycon.com.
