‘The Princess and the Frog’ could return with new live-action Tiana movie
More than 15 years after “The Princess and the Frog” introduced audiences to Disney’s first Black princess, Tiana could be returning in a new way. A report says Disney is developing a live-action movie focused on the beloved character, with Colman Domingo attached as a writer.

Just months after Disney canceled its planned “Tiana” Disney+ series, the beloved princess may already be headed back to the screen. According to a new report, Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo is in talks to co-write a live-action Tiana project, signaling Disney could be giving the Princess and the Frog heroine a fresh future after shifting away from the streaming series.
Disney has not revealed any story details for the reported project. According to Deadline, the film is being developed as an original live-action story centered on Tiana, suggesting it could expand the character’s world instead of retelling the events of the 2009 animated classic.
Where to find Tiana at Disney
Tiana remains one of Disney’s most prominent park characters. At Walt Disney World, guests can experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom, enjoy Tiana-inspired offerings aboard the Disney Cruise Line and stay in Royal Guest Rooms inspired by “The Princess and the Frog” at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. She also appears regularly in parades, character meet-and-greets, and seasonal entertainment.

At Disneyland Resort, guests can ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland Park and dine at Tiana’s Palace, the quick-service restaurant inspired by the film that opened in New Orleans Square. The continued investment in Tiana across Disney Parks underscores why any new film project could be significant for both Disney fans and theme park visitors.
Who is Colman Domingo?
Colman Domingo is one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors, playwrights, and filmmakers. He received back-to-back Academy Award nominations for Best Actor for his performances in “Rustin” (2023) and “Sing Sing” (2024), earning widespread praise for his dramatic work.
In addition to acting, Domingo has built a reputation as a writer, director, and producer across film, television, and theater. Disney fans may also recognize him as the voice of Norman Osborn in the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.”
According to Deadline, Domingo is now in talks to co-write Disney’s reported live-action Tiana movie alongside playwright Robert O’Hara. While Disney has not officially announced the project, the reported involvement of two celebrated storytellers suggests the studio is taking a creative-first approach to bringing Princess Tiana back to the big screen.
