Reebok introduces ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ footwear collection
Reebok, Illumination animation studio, and Universal Brand Development have joined forces, combining sneakers and the blockbuster “Despicable Me” franchise’s upcoming movie, “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” to create the ultimate footwear mash-up.
Fans of the mischievous Minions will be delighted to know there is a new range of Reebok footwear created with them in mind, and debuting in advance of next year’s July 2, 2021 theatrical release of the “Minions: The Rise of Gru” movie.
The super-fun full-family footwear collection aims to “inject inspiration directly from the forthcoming film that chronicles the untold story of one 12-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain.”
Each of the five styles represent an interpretation of the characters or villainous lairs from the movie, highlighted by color schemes that range from far-out to totally chilled.
Minions x Reebok Question Mid “Gru’s Lab”: Based on NBA star Allen Iverson’s signature sneakers, this silver and black version features rocket booster graphics, an unpolished silver upper mimicking the metal surfaces in Gru’s lab and a glossy-chrome leather panel with his signature “G” logo, plus interior “trap door” sock liners and glow-in-the-dark “slime” injected into the outsole for extra grip ($175; available in adult sizes only).
Minions x Reebok Instapump Fury “Vicious 6”: Notorious villains Belle Bottom, Stronghold, Jean Clawed, Svengence, Nunchuck and Wild Knuckles—the Vicious 6 from the upcoming movie—are the inspiration for this laceless Instapump Fury classic, with bold splashes of crazy colors representing Belle Bottom’s wardrobe, Stronghold’s tank, Jean Clawed’s robotic crab arm, Svengence’s roller derby uniform, Nunchuck’s holy chariot, and Wild Knuckles’ throne, trophies, and weapons ($200; available in adult and toddler sizes).
Minions x Reebok Club C “Vicious 6”: Get that funky 1970’s vibe compliments of the corduroy, leather, nubuck, and velvet textures and the retro colors found in the Vicious 6’s villains’ lounge, all combined to make this low-slung silhouette a more subtle, laid-back option ($100; available in adult sizes only).
Minions x Reebok Instapump Fury “Minions”: The most Minion-y of all footwear, these dramatic sneakers positively scream “Fun!” Blending the Minion’s eye-popping banana yellow with bold royal blue straps, they even feature a single Minion eye Pump button on the upper. They’re like wearing Kevin on your feet! ($170; available in adult and toddler sizes).
Minions x Reebok Club C “Otto”: For kids only! This bright mustard yellow shoe with a playful Minions sock liner pays homage to Otto, the unwitting and adorable new character introduced in “Minions: The Rise of Gru” ($70; available in toddler, pre-school, and grade school sizes).
Long and short sleeved T-shirts in regular and cropped styles complete the collection, blending the Reebok name and logo with Minions graphics. Even the packaging gets in on the fun, with boxes featuring graphics that include Gru’s childhood bedroom, his top-secret lair, and Easter eggs from the upcoming film.
