Ripley’s pays a sweet price for Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has purchased an iconic movie prop – Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates – for the sweet price of $25,000.

The prop chocolate box used by Tom Hanks in the 1994 film “Forrest Gump” (and signed by Hanks himself) was purchased at auction. Sadly, the white Russell Stover Candies box is not filled with chocolates; it’s filled with sand. This bit of “movie magic” helped Hanks balance the box on his lap during filming, so even though the box is marked one pound, the sand-filled prop actually weighs over four.

In addition to Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! also recently acquired the double-sided Lightsaber used by Darth Maul in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” Beatles manager Brian Epstein’s personal hand-notated address book (including addresses and phone numbers of the band and Mick Jagger), and Prince’s signature purple coat that he wore during his “Purple Rain” stage performances.
