A new ice cream shop is now open in the Downtown Disney District.

This Portland-based, family-run ice cream company is bringing its “taste-provoking” flavors to Orange County for the first time with this new location.

Co-founders and cousins Kim and Tyler Malek created Salt & Straw to be a one-of-a-kind experience that encourages guests to try the diverse menu and share memorable moments over ice cream.

When entering the shop, guests are greeting by Salt & Straw’s experts who will guide them on their tasting journey. The shop’s theming features an abstract totem pole display of scoops and cones, handmade sculpted lighting fixtures, and red-and-white-striped exterior panels to bring back the feeling of a modern-day mercantile.

Salt & Straw’s handmade ice cream offerings are crafted in small batches with local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. The location will offer monthly specials with unique flavors. Guests can enjoy their treat on handmade waffle cones, with fudge and rainbow sprinkles, as well as pick up a pint or two for the road.

When asked about what makes Salt & Straw unique, Tyler Malek, the head ice cream maker, had this to say:

“We collaborate with artisans in each of our scoop shop communities to create distinctive flavors. We team up with chefs, artists, brewers, coffeemakers, chocolatiers, and charcuteriers to craft distinct and amazing offerings. This collaboration is what makes Salt & Straw truly unique.”

“What also makes Salt & Straw unique is that we change our offerings monthly, debuting new seasonal menus on the first Friday of each month,” continued Malek. “Now in October, the Spooktacular series features flavors such as The Great Candycopia and Mummy’s Pumpkin Spice Potion that celebrate the Halloween season.”

This new opening of Salt & Straw is just one part of an overall transformation of the Downtown Disney District. Many new locations and refurbishments to existing offerings are also in store.
