Scorpion closing at Busch Gardens
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida is permanently closing the Scorpion roller coaster, the park announced today. The final day to ride Scorpion will be Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 (Labor Day). The attraction first opened in 1980.
Scorpion reaches speeds of up to 50 mph. Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.

What will replace Scorpion?
With Scorpion closing, Busch Gardens hasn’t announced what’s coming next, but the park said “this closure paves the way for exciting new future attractions, with more details about what’s coming to be revealed soon.”
Era of change for Scorpion’s area of the park
Scorpion is located in the Pantopia section of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, an area home to lots of recent changes. In 2024, the Phoenix Rising suspended coaster opened in this part of the park, and in 2023 the Serengeti Flyer pendulum ride opened here.

The area is also the location of Falcon’s Fury (a drop ride that first opened in 2014) and two live entertainment venues (Pantopia Theatre and Dragon Fire Grill Theatre).

Elsewhere in the park, Busch Gardens recently introduced the Treetop Kitchen restaurant, providing upscale cuisine.
