Donald Duck, ‘Hot Ones’ special guest

“Donald Duck on ‘Hot Ones'” may not have been on your 2024 bingo card, but it’s happening. The cartoon star appeared in animated form on a new episode of the “Hot Ones” video series on the YouTube channel First We Feast. The show, which is hosted by Sean Evans, features celebrities devouring (or attempting to devour) increasingly hot chicken wings while answering Evans’ interview questions.

Disney and First We Feast announced Donald’s appearance via social media on Aug. 21, 2024 and later debuted the full episode on Aug. 23.

Donald took on cauliflower wings with specialty hot sauces:

  • Queen of Roasted Hearts
  • Powerline Shock Sauce
  • Maleficent’s Fury
  • Cherna Barb-B-Q
  • Straight Out of Hades

Walt Disney Animation Studios spearheaded the animated visuals for the episode, with longtime Disney animator Eric Goldberg leading the effort. Goldberg was previously the supervising animator for Genie in “Aladdin,” among other characters.

“It’s been a great honor to direct two of our greatest stars, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, on this special episode of ‘Hot Ones,'” said Goldberg. “Of course, Donald can get a bit cranky at times, but all of the artists involved loved animating him! It was a blast working with Sean Evans and the ‘Hot Ones’ team, and the voices of Donald, Tony Anselmo, and Mickey, Bret Iwan.”

DreamWorks character Puss In Boots appeared on “Hot Ones” in 2022 during the press cycle for “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.”

For those who prefer their entertainment viewing within a subscription-based streaming app, previous seasons of “Hot Ones” are available to stream on Peacock, Hulu, and Disney+.

Donald’s 90th birthday

Donald Duck’s “Hot Ones” appearance is part of his ongoing 90th birthday celebration. (Donald made his big-screen debut in the Silly Symphony short film “The Wise Little Hen,” which was released on June 9, 1934.) Thus far, birthday festivities have included new Donald Duck merchandise and the debut of “D.I.Y. Duck,” Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first new Donald Duck cartoon since 1961.

In spring 2024, Tokyo Disneyland temporarily transformed into Donald’s Quacky Duck City, complete with Donald’s dream come true: his face, not Mickey’s, displayed as a floral photo-op at the front of the park.

In May 2024, we attended a special presentation on the Walt Disney Studios Lot in Burbank, Calif. celebrating Donald’s legacy, which included remarks from animator (and newly minted Disney Legend) Mark Henn, as well as Tony Anselmo, Donald’s official voice artist:
